Default Hot YGE

I have a YGE 60 in my stretched 500 and after a 4 min flight the esc is showing 156' F??? The outside temp was 57' F
I am using a 13T pinion 6 cell 3300 packs with a 2550 head speed with sport flying I know the scorpion motors will run hot on this heli but how hot is normal for the esc?

Mine also gets very hot, and we aren't even in the summer...
THe 80A didn't get as close in temperature.

Just did one more flight outside temp 57F 2550 head speed 4 min of sport flying loops and rolls!! This time the esc hit 181' F !!!!
This is with the air temp at 57' F !!! What will happen when it gets hot out???

Is this normal?

What are you measuring your temp with? Is it accurate? Also, what motor are you using and what is the PWM and timing you have the ESC set for?

Stock motor ( scorpion 880 ) stock setting on esc ( came with the protos kit ). Using the dx8 temp telemetry off the esc plate.

Just made up a heat sink I hope this helps

OK much better with the heat sink!! Same 4 min flight with 2550 head speed esc was 104' F.
People where not kidding about the motor and esc temps. ( motor was 173' F measured with a IR gun )

I think it's all the drag with the belt? Maybe I have it to tight? It should get interesting when it gets hot out!!!!

Do try a looser belt, but that said, 170F for a motor is not really an issue, its well below thermal specs for a scorpion motor.

I noticed with the mini protos that the heli works just fine with the belt on the loose side, compared to how i would set a more conventional belt, especially at the motor end. Not sure its the same on the 500 though.

My YGE 60 barely gets warm even after even my hardest flights. My MSH Scorpion 3026-880 motor gets hot but not my YGE 60, and I'm using a 16T pinion. There must be something wrong with your setup. I use Auto timing and 12KHz PWM rate.

Mine was like that in the normal Protos, but with the stretch is a different story. I also run low TH curves, so it doesn't help a bit.

Oh I didn't read that the OP had the stretch blades. Hmmm, I was turning 470mm blades @ 2800rpm on my LAHeli Sniper2. It was all fine during the winter and spring but when a 28C summer day came along I twice managed to thermally shut down my Kontronik Jazz 80-6-18. I then ordered a YGE 120 and never had another problem. A YGE 100 would have done the job but the 120 is the same weight and doesn't cost a lot more.
