Default YS91SRX Tareq - Spektrum Sensor work?

I can really recommend JapanRC, obtained my engine and Hatori pipe today, service was right on the button, EMS post was very fast, luckily I had a call from the post office straight away, paid the duty and here it is, looks very nice.

Took the backplate off for the crank lock, notice what looked like a steel ring/plate on the inside, its ferrous anyway. Am I correct in assuming the Spektrum backplate sensor will NOT work in this case??
Or does anyone know different?

We just had a long discussion about this with the YS120, which uses the same steel backplate, over on the 700 subforum. There are a number of people who use the spektrum backplate sensor with success that posted pictures of their setup. One guy even has two YS120's, both using the sensor just fine. They all had them mounted with the sensor right up against the backplate with the mounting brackett toward the back of the motor.

The steel plate is non-magnetic so it doesn't distorte signal.

If you don't get it to sense, just play around with the mounting position.

I got mine to sense using the SK540 governor software (YS120).

Not had good results I must say so far, a known good sensor was fitted on the backplate but RPM via telemetry gave nonsense readings. Only thing I have left to try is moving the sensor out a bit. I do get the red LED lit on the Spektrum TM1000 when the crank moves through.

BTW also tried an Align sensor into the TM1000, not recommended, doubled up on the clutch magnet bracket (1 for Gov, other TM1000). My DX 9 was giving low voltage alarms when the sensor triggered, suspect that the Align sensor drops the TM1000 internal regulator which was a bit scary, leaving well alone!

Ah, not so fast, said I had one option left, I have the CNC sensor mount, think the holes are the same as stock plastic mount so changed the tiny screw to the lower hole and I could then move the sensor away from the backplate about 1mm, it was just touching before. I just pulled it away as far as the slot allowed and screwed it down.

And now, my telemetry HS reading is spot on and consistent, no difference noted with the TM1000 led action, probably get a lot of spurious pulses if the sensor is too close.

Thank goodness it worked, solved a governor problem today because I could check the HS instantly

Nice! Yea, these sensors like a small gap. Also, be aware, that most sensors are not designed for use with High Voltage setups. If you are running/planning on running HV, you should use some kind of step down for the sensor.

Good point ref the voltage, using mine with the TM1000 so it has its own 3.2v regulator to supply the sensors. For the VBar governor I have an Aerospire sensor on the clutch magnet arrangement, again it also has a regulator.
