Hi Chris,
Did you dye your tail fin and tail wing? Which color did you use? RIT Tangerine?

Hi Chris,
Do you have a link or the name of the paint? How did you paint? Spray?

Its tamiya color paint for polycarbonate. It comes in a rattle can or brush on, i used the spray can. Fluorescent orange. Most hobby stores carry it.

The blades are painted with krylon for plastic in white then I faded the tamiya orange on, both paints stick well. You do have to rebalance the blades after they are painted.

Default RIT dye

Guys, need some input here!

I tried to do a big coloring job tonight, fins, skids and gears...

Fins took color very good, but not the skids and gears. So it seems the dye (Herdins brand) I've used on RC car wheels in the past is not good for this.

You who have use the RIT dye, do you use vinegar with it? Or just as is?

Cheers

But this time it just won't stick, so I ordered RIT dye

SHYguy

As mentioned the tail & boom fins take the dye very well but the main gear is a bear.

I just keep re-dying it over, over & over and it gets darker after numerous times. There is an extent where it looks kind of charcoal and that's the best I've gotten it. Once installed it does look pretty good so just keep dying it, if you have the patients.

Default Thanks

Funny you said that. I had just finished it and took it out with the stock canopy. Ended up pile driving it nose first in and got a nice list of stuff to repair. New canopy will be going on when I get the new parts next week.

I see, also with RIT?

Have seen some of you with very black gears though.

I'll add some vinegar to the mix today and give it another shot

Edit: And another couple of hours waste of time... with vinegar and 3x stronger dye the gears looked great in the pot... not after a wash & scrub... looks like wood now! Yihaaaaa!

Sharp looking 300s! Hope the re-maiden happens with zero drama. It definitely looks like you put a lot of time and money into both of yours, as well.

Due to the continued cold temps with snow flurries and rain I haven't even started to rebuild my 1st 300X. My Heli fleet remains grounded & collecting dust.
Thanks R3L72! Took it out today, a little windy, but it was a success!!

Now I wish I had stuck a bigger motor in it, lol. The Scorpion 2208-4660 is pretty much identical to stock in performance, not sure if using a 10T pinion governed would do much. Plus I have a feeling my stock batteries are lacking, I get about 3 min of hard flight before they start to drop off. But hey, no more roll-right, she's solid, I'm pumped!

Default dye

Shyguy, I tried dying landing gear and main gear last night and mine turned a shade of purple not wood. I put 4 packs and some viniger in Tried several hours and just left them in over night no change. Funny how the tail fins came out great in just 20 min. Got an idea I'm going to try tonight will post results later.

Not to forget the skids

Gave up and used Tamiya rattle can lexan paint

From past dye jobs I remember that one long boil is no good, for a darker shade you must rinse in water and repeat...

Default Dye

Finally gave up on the dye. Used a sharpie on the main gear and black plasti dip on the landing gear. Didn't turn out too bad. Know if the rest of my parts ever show up I'll be back up. Think I'm going to give up that I'll ever get my LiPo's from Hong Kong. Been 3 weeks and they are still with sing post.

think I am done with the bling. The metal parts were 1/2 off same with the canopy really liking the new scorpion motor is is very quiet and pretty powerful.
metal landing gear is pretty strong and pretty cheap. though they need the top slots lengthened and the holes for the skids reamed out as they are too tight and have burrs in them. they also only come with one setscrew per package.

Default Here's my 300x

I purchased one of the optional canopies, and got the lynx tail fin to give a little color. Still deciding on the color of the tail blades. Maybe the same orange or perhaps red ones. We'll see, for now here she is.
