Default true size heli?

wow so I'm out at the field today bear in mind I'm a newbie but a fast learner so anyway I have my align 500 flying around and then I bring out my gaui x5 and fly that someone says my x5 is more like a 550 size bird... I'm confused now the blades are 500mm and the align is 425mm so I tell him the align really is a 400 size the 450 is really a 300 size heli and so on....

wow this got into a big heated debate we even stopped flying lol and seems everyone started talking about it....

is my x5 really like a 550 size heli and the align 500 with 425mm blades a true 500? size heli???? to me I don't think so at all... A 600 and 700 size heli they use the right size blades a little confused on this .....

Sadly there is no convention for this right now.

My Align T-Rex 500 swings 425 mm blades. My Blade 300 CFX swings 245 mm blades.

The Goblin 500 swing 500 mm blades. It is very confusing, but that's what people mean when they say a "true" or "real" 500, meaning, like the Goblin, for example, the blades measure 500 mm.

The $64,000.00 question.

I had the same curiosity, guess at least on the bigger birds it's usually proportional with blade length.

my 450 swings 325mm.
the 500 has 425mm.
the 600 has 600mm.

Very interesting.

+1, a 'true' size, swings the mm blades that is has (Trex 500 = 425 = not a true 500, but a 500 size heli, because most were 425s at that time). Almost all 550s swing 550 blades, so above that you are looking at blade size.

450s are 325mm for standard and 360 for stretch (although there are some true small ones, Chase 360, Goblin 380, Agile 3.6, Warp 360, etc). These are based on the old motor size.

Smaller than that, it is roughly blade size, but its all over the map.. 250s with 205mm blades... Trex150 with 120mm blades, 300x w/ 245mm blades, etc. Check measurements before you buy and hope they get their act together soon.

As with bikes (or just about anything), a certain size from one manufacturer isn't the "same" as the size from another. A 54cm road from Giant isn't the same as a 54cm from Ventana. The KTM EXC525 doesn't actually have a 525cc engine. Weird, I know.
