Default Battery Plugs ?

Hi guys

What battery plugs are you guys using?

I have a gap in my heli setup....Long story short, i have a Logo 700 1/2 built and a Logo 550 on the way. So it's an ideal time to reconsider my battery plugs....

I have been using EC5's for a while and have been happy with them. I use the E-Flite "springy" type.

The other plugs i was considering are the PRC-6 bullet plugs and the 6,5mm Castle Connectors.

Do any of you use individual bullet plugs and "join" the packs to 12s?
The PRC-6 individual bullet plugs look good for this setup. What do you think?

Is there some better solution out there, like a nice German plug ?

Thanks
Paul

I use the "EC5" type sold by Progressive and others which are actually bullets not the standard banana spring ones. I will not fly the banana spring ones any more. Even the bullet type is not perfect, after many flights its a good idea to open up the springs with a hex driver or something. If they made deans that had twice the surface area I'd probably use them.

Gone to XT150's (6mm) for 7S. The bullets don't pair up very well to form a dual lead plug but work great individually to form 12 and 14S packs. Might switch my 6S's over from EC5.

Rcproplus supra 6mm. The triangle shaped ones. They are high priced but the housings are reusable and the connectors themselves are the best fitting I've ever had. Very easy to get a good solder joint on as well. They have been a good investment for me

Nothing but EC5's for my bigger heli's. For 500 size and smaller I use Deans...Never had any issues.

I switched over to PRC6 connectors on both my Logo 500SE and larger 700-750 birds.

The 6.5mm polarized Castle Creations connectors are insane, and durable, and quite reasonably priced. I've switched over to them entirely.

The only complaint I have about them is that they are quite hard to separate once plugged in. That can be helped a great deal with Stabilant 22 or other electrically safe lubricants, but I have to put that warning out there when recommending them.

They are rated for 200A. I don't have a setup that will pull 200A continuous, but I have done close to 160 and the connectors remained at ambient temp.

Note: the PRC6 connectors look to be just as good performance-wise, though I haven't used them. However I do own a set and in my opinion, the Castle connectors have a more finished look and feel more substantial. That may have nothing to do with their effectiveness, just calling out differences since they're rated equally. Progressive RC is a great company and I would happily stand behind any of their products.

I face this dilemma constantly. Everyone pretty much does their own thing. It seems to be the nature of the hobby: follow when in doubt, become unique when mastered. We keep chasing perfection!

I would suggest matching to most used batts if vendor provides connectors preinstalled. That's why I went with XT150's. If not so lucky, just make sure you use short version bullets to fit in tight places (edit: oops, that was for motor connectors!). 6 or 6.5mm, can't go wrong Cheers.

I'd also suggest you use what other guys at your field use. That way if you forget a charge lead at home, break a connector at the field, etc., etc., there will be plenty of options to fall back on.

Well that's practical thinking. But I prefer to be a trendsetter.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the advice, i have made a discussion..... EC5's will stay.

I really wanted to use individual bullets, but couldn't find a completly fool proof way to prevent accidentally plugging 2 batteries together.

My 5 year old son comes to the field with me quite often and loves messing with all my stuff....

EC5's are about the only plug used in Dubai, but i am usually the guy lending out a pack of plugs to someone!!!!

I also have a box full of them...

Thanks
Regards
Paul
