SIMULATOR training definitely pays off!

It's been almost 1 year since I first held a transmitter behind a Blade 200SRX. Crashed often and decided to invest on a simulator (Phoenix 5). Fast forward to today and here's my progression. Flight criticism is welcome!.

From what I can see, that is pretty good flying. Unfortunately, the video is very hard to see (fisheye makes heli more of a spot in the the sky, you really need a narrower focus lens).

This level of progression in flying is not possible without the simulator. Well done. Hopefully many good flights ahead of you.

Thanks for the tip. This was my first time setting up and recording with a gopro. I've changed my settings to narrow field of view and give it another go.

For being less than a year, I say Very impressive progress there and yeah, I totally agree, a sim is the best training tool.

Thank you. It's only gonna get more challenging from here on out which is what I love about this hobby.

Thanks for the compliment Hamish! Fortunately, my work has enough down time that I'm able to sneak in a sim session here and there so needless to say, I try to sim everyday and on average about 30 to 60 minutes per day. I watch a lot of youtube videos and attempt to mimic some of the maneuvers I feel I can achieve in real life. I love this hobby!

It's very rewarding when you can perform the maneuvers you've been practicing on the sim into real life. I can safely say that flying RC helis is one of the most challenging things I've done to date and I'm sure many can attest to that. Happy flying everyone!

How did you execute maneuvers in the sim to Real life flying? I want to know if its possible to just practice in the sim first until you can fly inverted? and then just go out and then try it in your real life heli?

Yes you can. The question is.....Do you have the courage

The more experience you gain taking prototyped moves from the sim to IRL the more confidence you'll gain doing. At first you just need to take it on faith from others that have gone before. It really does work exactly the same. Visuals are better so IRL is easier. Fear of bad consequences stops many folks from trying things IRL which is a shame because the fear itself takes 50 IQ points from your thumbs.

If you can do a move 100 percent of the time on the sim you can do it IRL. If you can do 60% on the sim AND you have a practiced bail out that works, it's time for IRL. Just give yourself some altitude. Not so much you can't see the model but whatever makes you comfortable.

Yes indeed Sim to IRL transition is very much possible. Also, the key thing is to ensure the model you choose to fly on the sim performs identical to your real life model ie: identical roll rates and piro rates, expos, sensitivity etc....

As mentioned above, the only thing separating your performance from sim to IRL is courage.... Fly two mistakes high and just give her! Don't think too much and let and sub conscious fly the heli!

To this date, I sim religiously and quite proud of my own progression. I'll post an updated video of my flying soon.
