New Swashplate zero play - after 12 flights sloppy...
After a crash i bought a new MSH swash plate with zero play, after my first dozen flights i have now 1.5mm play between the inner and outer plate.
Is this normal with MSH swash? Any ideas how to fix this? Or should i just move to 3rd party parts because MSH isn't able to deliver working spare parts for their great flying helicopters?

is there any third part swashplate for the mini protos?
i just discovered with my mini on the bench that the inner ring on the swashplate is cracked, or should there be a small line on it? Should the inner ring look like its been pressed in there, thought it would be machined from a whole part of metal? doesn't have any slop thou after 50+ flights... |

There was a revision a looong time ago. The older swash tended to get sloppy or come with play out of the box (happened to me last year, very old stock from freakware). No ill effects in flight though. My MiniP with the newer swash has >200flights, no play at all.
The newer swash has the inner balls on small "pedestals", whereas on the older swash the inner/upper ring is perfectly round. @rickard: There should be no cracks. Can you upload a pic? I donīt know if there is an aftermarket swash. Wasnīt needed I guess.

I thought about Lynx had a swash for the MP, but i was wrong, sorry.
But there is a 3rd party swashplate available from a guy in germany who makes custom swash plates for different helis, have always read only good things about his swashplates, though i don't know if he ships outside his country and the price was IIRC about 40-50EUR I checked my old-style swashplate, the last time i counted i had more than 750 flights with it and it still has zero play! too bad the bearing is notchy and i have no clue and no tools how to change the bearing... the new swashplate i bought is the new design and again you need a different special tool do disassemble it, damn it! Looks like i had bad luck with my spare parts purchases from MSH. edit: i just removed the bearing from my old swash, funny thing is, the bearing itself is now running smooth as it can be, hahaha. the trick was to use enough heat to break the green loctite, worked well with a pair of pliers

@honkytown: Very nice effort and good info First time I see someone taking one of these apart. How did you heat it up? Put it in the oven? Is the bearing a std size?
But I think the one you disassembled is the new style, which would explain why itīs not sloppy. Attached how my old swash looks. As said even a NIB old style swash I ordered had play. I heard about a guy in Germany making swashplates for the Protos I think, not the Mini? Iīve forgotten the name anyway, sorry. @rickard: Ah ok itīs on the swash ball. It looks more like a grease residue in the photo? You already tried to clean it I suppose? Never heard of swash balls cracking (lol). If itīs just on the surface and the swash still moves smoothly I would not worry to much.

Im sure that its not grease, Hard to capture it on photo with the Phone, but there is a small line here like the inner swash ring was pressed togheter rather than machined from one piece. |

I found the name from the german guy who makes swashplates for the miniprotos, Uwe Gerber >liveinitup [ at ] gmx.de
the swash bearing: outer diameter 21mm, inner diameter 15mm, height 3.95mm i used a heat gun for the disassemble, it needed serious heat, but then it worked like a charm with normal pliers, really easy. on the left side is my old swash(kit from 2012), right side my new swash(spare part from 2015) i could raise my cyclic ring(vstabi) from 72(old swash) to 85 with the new swash without binding issues on the main shaft i looked more closely on my new sloppy swash, it is the bearing itself which is sloppy and has some movement up and down, a new bearing(6702 ZZ) costs 1.50-15EUR depending on quality

So it seems that there is another slightly different verion of the swashplate. I checked my non-sloppy swash and itīs the type you disassembled (3 notches). For reference I added the look of the underside of the old swash. No idea how one could change the bearing in that one.
Yes, Uwe Gerber was his name, I think he could make them according to spec. But easier to change the bearing yourself now? Nice to know itīs a commonly available part. @rickard In your pic you marked the swashball as being defective, didnīt you? Anyway, if itīs only superficial I would not worry.

Actually i dont know if the swashball is defective or not, it could be that the swashball is pressed and not machined from a whole piece of metal. There is a fine line in it, not like a crack more like it supposed to be there. |
