Default Best simulator for planks

My brother has just started to get into rc aicraft and wants to know which simulator is best for planks. He's not intrested in helis. I myself have Phoenix but is more heli based. What one should I recommend to him?

Real Flight best for planks. Phoenix best for helis. But either is adequate for both.

That's what I've gathered from reading MANY posts and polls about the two sims.

I actually just got my first plank!... a ParkZone Trojan T-28... and Phoenix does seem to sim it pretty well.. but only after I did some tweaking on the model. Planks are actually pretty fun surprisingly... landing is quite challenging to me coming from helis...

I have found Phoenix to be straight on with both flight models.

Buy your bro the DX8 or MS FX.

I don't find Phoenix particularly realistic at all for planes. I think this is partly to do with the general physics model and partly to do with being unable to accurately simulate the models movement and the winds effect on the flow of air over the wings and over and around the model generally.

Not tried anything else mind so I can't recommend an alternative.

I find pheonix is great for planes. I have been flying a trojan t 28 for a few months now and rekon the sim is very similar. Even my seasoned mate who flys acrobatics with big scale planes thinks its very representitive of the real thing.

I recommend looking at both side by side on a large screen display before you make that purchase. You said you wanted realistic, not cartoon-ish.

"Flow of air over the wings" Sure wish I was a good enough pilot to know what you're talking about.

I've had realflight ever since g2, and they've always got the planes dead on, especially 3D, i switched over to phoenix a while back, the helis fly perfect but the planes, not to offend anyone, but they all have broken physics

Please do yourself and your brother a favor and check the computer hardware requirements for RealFlight BEFORE you go out and buy it....

It's a good sim, but as they've progressed up through the versions the hardware requirements keep cranking up as well. So if your brother doesn't have a relatively new and pretty well equipted computer, he may have issues trying to run RealFlight.

Just a thought....

I've been flying planes much longer than helis and RealFlight is much more realistic than Phoenix for planes. I've owned both sims and the planes on Phoenix fly very poorly. No amount of tweaking, for me, has been able to get them to fly realistically. Phoenix is outstanding for helis, not so for planes.

Given that it's what creates the lift I'm surprised.... Good job sarcasm isn't dead though eh?

Try rolling a fixed wing in each direction with the wind blowing across it's flights path. Do the same into the wind and with the wind behind.

Alternatively try flying with flaps as slowly as you can in all directions with a steady but not strong wind and then do the same in Phoenix and tell me that the sim accurately represents real conditions.

Real Flight G5 all the way...i had g5 for a while and the plane physics are WAY better than pheonix, however phoenix is deff better for the heli side of things

And check out the posts in Real Flight and Phoenix, there are comments there also on which one pilots like regarding planes.

I had both Real Flight and Phoenix.

The planes were far better on Real Flight, I had 3.5 and 4.5 Real Flight and compared that to Phoenix 2.5
