motor squealing (dying) on the 4th pack
So I have been lurking the nano boards for a while now and since it's been raining all day, I decided to go to the LHS and pick one up.
The first 3 packs I just hovered lightly for 3 minutes to let the motor break itself in. I gave it around 6 minutes rest in between flights as I flew 2 other helis. On the 4th pack, I spooled up to about 1/3 throttle, then the motor squealed loudly and the heli spun around in circles without ever taking off. I tried to fly it again a few minutes later and the same thing happened. It sounds like a bad bearing. This is my 7th Blade heli and I have never had a motor (or any part for that matter) die on me this quickly. Update: Just got off the phone with HH and they are sending a replacement motor. Good customer service! Last edited by 02stampede; 09-29-2012 at 07:45 PM.. |

It is probably too late for this motor but I would check the gear mesh, maybe it was too tight causing quick failure..

Thanks for the reply. The mesh appears to be okay and spins very smoothly.
I put another battery in and it is all but dead. The heli barely lifts off the ground now. I'm going to see if the LHS has any in stock tomorrow. I am getting one from HH but I am definitely going to have spares on hand. It seems that these are as hit or miss as the msrx motors. does anybody have me beat with less than 4 flights out of a motor? |

I have a similar problem. My heli will usually fly through the 1st pack fine, but sometime in the second pack there is a squeal and the heli spins a revolution or two and then continues on normally. It will do this for anywhere for 2 - 30 seconds and then things seem good for the rest of the pack.
I did talk with HH and they thought it was the tail motor so sent me a new one. Need to figure out how to replace that next. But I figure it is probably the main motor. Was hoping it would just die to confirm my suspicion. As you noted, my mesh seems fine and everything seems smooth. Did your new motor solve your problem? |

I had one fail mid flight, led went out and dropped like a stone. the motor was sticking as though there was contamination with debris. I figured out that a piece of the brush broke off causing internal binding. I'm gonna get a new frame and parts for a bl upgrade with my replacement today. that will be my 3rd 12 dollar motor on a bird ive had for a week.

Just a heads up guys. If you suspect your motor is bad don't run it while it is hooked up to the 3in1. You could blow a fet on the board. Best to check it out of the model hooked up to a battery. If you use a lipo don't run it down past 3.7 volts or you risk killing your lipo.
