Tail Servo 90 Degree Arm Moves on SK 540
Going through the tail set up wizard. The directions of the servo are confirmed. Next you are asked to move the rudder stick to move the servo arm to 90 degrees. I moved the rudder stick to get the servo arm to 90 degrees and when I click center as asked in the wizard the servo moves quite a bit off 90 degrees. I assume I need to manually change the servo trim value in the software so the arm is at 90 degrees then set up zero degrees on the tail blades as asked in the next step. I don't remember the tail servo arm moving away from 90 degrees when the center button was clicked after moving the rudder stick to locate 90 degrees on the other Skookums I have set up. I may have just used the servo trim to do it in the software and not paid much attention to the software instructions. I was trying to double check my set up and just noticed this.
Anyone else have the servo arm move quite a bit away from 90 with the servo when using the rudder on the transmitter?

Went in and manually adjusted the rudder servo trim in the software to get the servo 90 degrees and hit center and everything stayed as it should - done in the past any way. Just curious if anyone else witnessed this?

That's your tail pre comp kicking in Tom. It will move the tail depending on where your collective stick is positioned. You need to have the collective at mid stick/zero pitch in order for the tail to stay centered once you set it.
The unit reads center during set up mode just fine, but then the tail will kick back out to where the pre comp wants it once set and the software hands it back to normal functionality. My guess is your stick was at full low where most of us are trained to keep it when working on a heli You may want to go though the wiz again, as it sounds like you mechanically dialed you pre comp out for the position your collective was sitting at, and your tail will not be at zero pitch with centered collective anymore.

Thanks Xrayted. I'll definitely give the set up a once over again. It was a little late last night and you are correct....all good pilots keep the collective stick down during set up.

It's easy for you to test to see if you are set ok. Just power up the heli with the motor disabled and linear pitch curve. The tail should be centered with zero pitch at mid collective, and you will see the tail blades move out of center when you move through the collective range. If the tail isn't centered at zero collective, then you will need to go through and set up again, or mechanically adjust it back to where it needs to be. I think I would go through the wizard again just to make sure. Good luck!

Went back through the wizard and now have promised myself to do no heli set ups after 11 pm. Took a test flight and the adjustments made by increasing the tail servo ball distance from 10 to 13 mm did the trick. Tail performance is 100 times better. In other words...perfect.
