Finally finished the mechanical repairs today after a few months of having her languishing on the wall.
I've been hammering my 450 about and really enjoying it but the Protos is starting to call again.
I abhor bad wiring and finally bit the bullet and ordered myself a servo crimp tool, as soon as that gets here I'll properly tidy up the wiring and get her in the air once more.
I'm really getting into my Tic-Tocs on the sim and am looking forward to trying them on the bigger Protos.
The 450 is nice (AR7200BX/ino-labs/Scropion/Kontronik), but it's just too light for the winds we have at the moment, I drilled it yesterday after losing orientation.
I also have a Nook Color on the way that I am going to root, this will be the BT terminal for both my Knight 3D and my Protos.

That's what servos I went with for cyclic servos. I have a Spektrum H6080G on rudder.

Painted the tail fin orange. BTW, the orange Krylon paint pen matches the Protos canopy color perfectly

It's been solid rain for the past 2 weeks here. No flying possible I did catch an hour break in the rain today, charged a couple packs on the mCPX and got a short fix.

Same as me.
There is no point of having to almost identical helis (or 2 helis, in fact) at this stage.
My wife is expecting twins and I always wanted to try an EDF jet.
So I sold the Protos to get an Eflite Habu 32 and try it when I still can...

Default What the Heck............

I was sleep good just now........I feel something pulling on my feet, woke up thinking it was my wife (messin with me) or dog (Smokey) wanting to go outside. I look down it was the Protos..... so I'm up and heading to the park...

I flew 8 packs with a slight tail wag that would come and go. So I decided last night when I got home it was time to balance my tail assembly with my new Top Flite magnetic balancer.

Messing with flipping too low and had a tail blade strike, which then destroyed the center of the main gear, which then cracked both main bearing blocks, which then caused the entered rotor head to come off the heli.

Destroyed parts: both blade grips, grip balls, spindle, main shaft, bearing blocks, main gear, tail boom, tail shaft, tail hub, tail blade grips, stripped servos, cracked servo horns and 470mm main blades.

I put it in the closet to store it for a while.

The last time I flew it, it was flying perfectly, no vibration, no tail wag. It seemed perfectly locked on except when I was flyling backwards really fast and the tail apparently weather vaned on me and flipped 180 degrees and then went on its merry way.

Hope to bring it out to play again later in the month. My hope is to fly more inverted lower to the ground.

I puffed two packs for the first time ever on a heli. The motor came down hot, but ESC barely warm. I lowered my throttle curve points, but it still came down a little hot with a slightly puffed pack. I've been flying this thing all winter with no problems, but since its getting very warm outside lately the motor must not be able to stay as cool.

I ordered a 13T pinion and adapter so I can gear it down and hopefully not ruin anymore expensive packs.

I received my fbl head kit, orange tail blades and some spares.

I ordered my rudder servo and AR7200BX.

I need to get my head around the swash level arm build since it seems you can screw up the installation of the pins, and I need to figure out how to setup the level reference for pitch setting.

Kit should be here shortly.

I got to fly two batteries yesterday. Fairly uneventful, except I flared too much on a baby auto from about 20 feet up and brought it down a little rough and it tipped over. Was in the grass, so no damage at all. Flying out to Ashland, OR for work today, so I'll be away from my beloved helis for the next 3 days. sad
