I spooled up my A30-12XL on 5S 3700 flightpower NF packs with the 24 tooth pinion today. 70% headspeed is 2975 rpm on the head and power is VERY good. Temps were withing reason and this is without a fan installed.
Got a fan coming for it. I am going to run it this weekend and see what king of data I can get with the FDR.

I did run this motor on 4S and it was well just ok. Tail was letting go(where it has never done that before) some and headspeed was 2600 at 95% throttle.

I will say this I do not wish to ever fly below 2800rpm for 3D.
I am not telling everyone to go run near 3000 rpm but it really kicks arse above 2800.

YEP! I am running 2900 myself.
I am owrried about the blades at this head speed but it is really going well so far.. I put in 5 flights last Sunday and no hint of a tial let go and I was doing so backwards inverted stuff

Jon, you still thinking your 12T is a 10T?
For some reason I cannot get a hyperion 12T now it is back ordered and has been for 3 weeks! Makes me wonder? Not sure i want to ry 5S on my 10T with the pinion Lovi sent me?

I really do think my 12T is really a 10T. that is why I am asking for some data from other users. may help clear that up.

In the meantime this 12XL is really looking good.

Bob, are you still running the same setup? Or have you changed the pinion for higher headspeeds,
I am also running your same setup - would curious if you changed, how has the performance changed, and flight times with batteries, motor temp., etc.

Right now I am still running the same setup power wise.
I plan to try 5S soon since I have a 19T pinion now.

great, I look forward to your results - if good, maybe I will give it a try,
Are you looking for some more torque and longer flight times?

Thanks,
Jeff

Well I threw around my lepton on 5S 3700 flightpower with the Hacker A30-12XL.
Very powerful setup. best so far. I was running at 75% throttle and hit 3100 rpm at the beginning of the flight in a hover.

Flew 4:30 including spoolup and spooldown. Motor was 178F without a fan.
I think with a fan it will go for 6-7 minutes without getting too hot.

I used just over 2000 mah out of the pack. here is the FDR graph
temp is the battery
57 amps
Over 1000 watts

Jon, at this point, do you feel the 5S setup is going to really offer any advantages over the 4S setup for aggressive 3D - still seems pretty close, but I am not experimenting with the 5S yet, so not sure from these posts what the real story is,
Thanks,
Jeff

longer flight times with a little more power is going to be the benifit.
I still think more pinions are the answer but this one is getting very close. If it runs cool with a fan installed I definatley think it will be better than the 4S setups.

Jon,
For a 4S setup with the stock pinions do you advise me to buy Hacker A30-10XL or 12XL, finally?
Do somebody have some news about aftermarket pinions to be available soon? Like a 20T?
Thanks
Nicolas

rotodingo - for 4S you will want the 10XL.

Hey Jon J., Matt and I put an on-board monitor on the Lepton 5S/12XL setup of mine with the Jazz 55 and ran some numbers. The HIGHEST amp pull (with him flying mind you) was 60 and the average was in the 30's or 20's (I have to get the graph from him).

That means, as I suspected from the outset, that we all could have saved ourselves well over a $100 and used a Jazz 40-10-24 or 32. Even though it is only rated for 50A, I watched Matt pull 86 A almost non-stop on his 55-10-32 on a 10S Logo 14 and it is only rated for 75 A - so there is a huge buffer built in I think.

Anybody tried that on 5S?

Anyway, I could also use some help as I am moving my Jazz 55 to my Trex 600 and putting the Align 75 on the Lepton with my 12XL. I would love to hear someone has that setup working well and what settings/curves they found worked.

Mike
