Default Well I now have a7hv

Found a bargin with a bnf 7hv it's like new with a hand full of flights, so it's got some ultimate upgrades.
Compass motor
610 are out and bls451 in
Bls251
Cc120 but might go hw120
Full size vbar out sk540 in
Spektrum sats
A set of turngy 5000

So do I get some more 5000 packs or 4500. I'm no 3d god but try a little, what sort of times do you get and at what headspeed?

Cheers
Martin

CONGRATULATIONS!

You have just acquired what, IMHO, is the best 700 sized ship on the market!

With regard to batteries, I would go for the 5000's. I am running 5300 Gens Ace, fly for five minutes, and could go for a couple more, should I choose to do so.

The batteries come down barely warm.

im using turnigy 5000s, they are pretty heavy. If you decide to buy more batteries then go for a lower capacity 4000-4500 is a sweet spot. Im pretty sure this additional weight is why i have to run a high headspeed an thus flight times are around 4.30 mins

5000's are giving me 5 minutes and they come down @3.75-3.80 @ 2200 governed headspeed. My flight style is crappy collective management sport. I tried running the 4000's off my x5 but I could only get 3.5 minute flights.

If you're flying sport, there's no reason to be running that high of head speed on a 700. I'd bet you'd get a big boost in flight time even just lowering it to 2000.

Yeah you're right. However, I can only fly for 5 minutes. Any longer than that I could end up doing something stupid. Any less than that I feel cheated. I was running 2300 and 12 degrees pitch. I just recently lowered headspeed to 2200 and 12.5 degrees pitch. Next I am going to try 2100 with 13 degrees. I need to pick up a smaller pinion if I want to go any lower I think. Coming from my x5 this thing does not feel overpowered at 2300. But that is comparing apples to oranges. Thanks for the advice.

I've flown 30C 12S4000 Spyder and cannot tell a performance difference from Gens Ace 30C 12S5300. I fly around 1600 for a slow easy smooth flight. Easily over 7 mins, even with 12S4000. The 7HV springs to life over 2200. I really like it at 2260. I fly for 5 mins with plenty left over at that speed. Cells at about 3.75v with the 5300's. The 4000's come down at 3.7v/cell if I limit my headspeeds a bit lower, say no more than 2100. The weight difference between the packs is 300g, and honestly do not feel a difference in the weight. I can sort of think I feel the difference at less than 1700 when I fly the lighter pack. My newest pack of choice is a new Gens Ace 60C 12S4400. I won't go back to individual packs. I shrink wrapped my Gens Ace 30C 6S5300's together on the tray, and ran my leads to the front. Makes it simple to use no y-adapter, and short leads. I found I really like the EPbuddy XT150 bullet connectors (with individual colored housings) to eliminate the y-adapter and have no issues at well above 200 amp peaks. Currently flying the Xera 4530-500 with a 14t helical pinion. The newer Compass 4926-510 SZ is terrific with the same pinion setup. Nice smooth motor that runs relatively cool as well. The Xera is simply awesome in terms of the torque output. Bog free. I've not run the Compass motor with the new can yet, but have it ready this season. Interestingly, I see higher amp peaks with the Compass motor (last season, prior can) than I do witht the Xera, but the Xera clearly has more torque and capacity to hold the higher headspeeds with 13 degrees of pitch. It flies also very nicely at low headspeeds. I even flew it one day last season with a single Gens Ace 30C 6S5300 no more than 1100 rpm. Balanced easily, and handled nicely. Just need a setting with higher tail gain for the super low headspeeds, and it helps to run 115 tail blades like the Compass carbons, Rotor Tech 115's or the Edge 116's. I never went back to smaller blades after finding how well the bigger tail blades do with a variety of headspeeds. It's crazy stealth quiet at that speed too.

I'd probably choose a nice Western Robotics HV BEC or Gryphon BEC with either of those ESC's. I also wouldn't run the lower headspeeds with those ESC's unless I ran a smaller pinion.

Iam looking at haiyin lipos as there a good price over here and have a good dealer. The 4k are 655g and the 5k are 775g as for the esc might got with the yep120 to run the low headspeeds.

Sport ?? i think you are doing a little more than sport flying my friend. i think you are using he correct head speed for the type of flying that you do.

when i am doing sport flying instead of 3D i think 7HV still seems to like the head speed. it flys nice with less but it flys awesome between 2200 and 2300 rpm.. i can get 6 min out of my 5300 packs with the blades i have on it now. with the old set of 713mm blades i was only getting 5 min with those packs.
