Default What servo?

Need to know what servo are you using and what is the tail doing for starters? This will help and yes there is a difference.

im using all promodler servos. had no problem with beast x. the tail isnt holding in a hover sometimes the tail would kick out. i played, with the tail gain in the radio and it made little difference.. i also have it mounted so theservo wires are on the right side. i know all helis are different. im just wondering what gains u ended up with so i know if im in the ballpark. thanks

One layer of 3m 4011 tape.

Mount the unit on any horizontal surface. The unit can be mounted upright or upside down with the servo bus pointed any direction. The only limitation is the unit can not be mounted on a vertical surface.

Gains around the 50 mark to start.

If you have any more questions, best to ask in the skookum forum.

Default I have mine in the original Pantera

1 layer 3M double sided tape. That being said, try adjusting your gain in the gyro itself. My tail is locked solid. Using all Pantera hardware including the tail feathers. I have the Futaba BLS 251 for the servo. I haven't adjusted the gain in the radio, it's always been in the gyro itself.

Rate Gain 75
Hold Gain 60
Accel Gain 1
Cyclic Tail 0
Collective 25
L/R Start 30 / 30
L/R Stop 35 / 35

These settings are for both tail 1 and 2 as I like to set and forget with no chance of a flipping switch accident. I could not tell you what the TX even says to be honest with you, I never messed with it. I left it at the original value. If you don't have one already, the field LCD for the Skookum is very nice to have to make these adjustments. Yes it is inconvenient and time consuming, to have to stop the machine to adjust the gyro itself, but not near as much if you have to do a rebuild.

Default Wires come out

The right side if you are viewing from the tail, and left, if viewed from the front.

Default p6 and skookum 540 help

If you can give me a couple of days, I can show you some pics of how I mounted mine (directly over the electric clutch) and also send you the SK file if you want?

Mine's a Stage II electric, SK720, DS615 servos, Edge FBL 602, HK 4035-510 on 12S.

Default It is simple...

Take the gyro platform, flip it upside down, using .05 drill(or there about), make a hole at all 4 corners. This is best done in a drill press but doesn't have to be if your hand is steady. Put the gyro plate over the ELE servo and then using the gyro plate as a template and the same drill, with a hand drill this time drill your holes. The drill should have some masking tape about 5/16's from the tip to set hole depth. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE ELE SERVO IN PLACE!!!. You have been warned. Use the original canopy screws for mounting the wind screen. The drill needs only be big enough to make room for the thread shank of the screw.
I still have the original pad on mine behind the main shaft. I now use it for a second satellite RX.

Default Pics of SK720 install

Here's how I have mine:
https://www.helifreak.com/attachment...1&d=1410017315

I did chop off some of the front of the frame, that was not to fit the 720 platform there, it was so I could get my clutch out for servicing without having to split the frames. Not an approved mod (John's probably having kittens right now, but the P6's frame is so strong, I wasn't worried, and it hasn't caused any problems... yet?)

As you can see below, the 720 is mounted with the thick black anti-vib tape, then the heavy plate, and then a layer of thinner double sided anti vib.
https://www.helifreak.com/attachment...1&d=1410017315

I struggled with really high vibs (+16 mag) on this ship when I was first installing the 720, and almost went mad trying to kill them. I was never successful, but as I don't use self-leveling ever, I now don't care. I did try a number of locations, and this was the best - on my helicopter. Wouldn't be an issue for a newer generation 540 - remember, my 720 is one of the oldest blue ones.

Shot of the other side, showing how my wiring runs. I am using a traditional receiver, so there are masses of cabling. Running a sport setup on 12S, NR of 1550 rpm, very, very happy with it!

The platform itself is a CF plate, with bracing on the underside. The braces are sized to fit exactly between the frames. The mounting screws go through the frames into a pair of threaded inserts I press fit & glued into the CF sidewalls. It's immensely strong - actually stiffens up that area of the helicopter (after I crudely hacked off some of John's work...).

Let me know if you want the .sk file...
