And maybe you know, where is the cheapest price for this motor?
I bought mine from Esprit, but when they had a sale. I think I paid $105. Haven't seen it on sale anywhere else since. I think Castle lists it at $129, but I don't think they keep them in stock, so you may have to wait a few weeks.

I'm kind of a novice 3D guy, so I don't abuse it all that much. The motor is a good fit for me. My collective management isn't all that good, and I still don't bog it. However, if you're looking for really aggressive performance, I think Neu is about to release a 1708H/1Y which has another 20% power and still runs on 6S. I think they'll have an 8S version as well if you want to go that route. You might already be able to get them, but Castle lists them as TBD.

Hope this helps.

My freakin brain hurts after reading all the different motor, battery, esc combinations here! I've read about 15 pages of posts and I'm still confused and not sure what setup to use, but here's what I have to start with.
I picked up a Turnigy Typhoon 500
A 70/80 amp Speed Controller-5a ubec
5S 3000Mah 20C packs
13,14,15,16,17t pinions to experiment with.
So how am I doing here? I'm shooting from the hip on this so any help/comments would be appreciated. Thanks

I've heard good things about the new Hyperion packs, but haven't tried them yet. Let us know how they hold up.

I just finished some testing my scorpion 1400kv version. I am pulling a consistent 2000 watts with a 15 tooth pinoin and 3:30 min flight times and 2650 40C batteries. I am running torsion 430mm blades.

Why do you want a 5000mAh pack in a 500? Great endurance I suppose, but it will be too heavy to fly well, and a bear to balance.

LOOKS GOOD BUT WHEN YOU BY MORE BATTERIES GET FROM THIS PLACE THE.............http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._35C_Lipo_Pack.

ITS A 3S BUT I USE TWO TOGETHER TO MAKE A 6S AND HAVE 6 SETS THATS 12 BATTERIES AND HAVE CLOSE TO 50 FLIGHTS ON THEM ALL WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! PLUS IN A CRASH YOU MIGHT ONLY HAVE TO REPLACE 1 PACK NOT A WHOLE 6S.

NOT BAD FOR 42 BUCKS FOR A SET OR 21 EA. I USE TO USE THUNDER POWER AND OUTRAGE !!!! THOSE ARE A JOKE! THESE BLOW THOSE THINGS OUT THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, those Turnigys are pretty inexpensive. I bought the motor and some other stuff from HK. I just picked up a 12 tooth pinion from my LHS for the Typhoon after reading other post from people here about high headspeed. I also picked up 2-6S 2650 30C Blue Lipos and 2-3S 2200 25C from hobbypartz to experiment with. Since I just started building it may be a while before I can post any flight videos or results on performance of these batteries. C'mon spring!!!

Default Align ESC & Scorpion Timing

I have ordered a scorpion 3026-1400 which I believe requires the ESC timing to be set at 20 - 25 degrees, with the Align BL75G ESC would this be Mid-timing or High-timing.

Many Thanks in advanced for your help.

Default The most insane so far

I reasently got a Neu 1708/1,5Y for my 8s 500, and today I logged 3000watt peaks during pitchpumps.
This must be the most powerful 500 set up available at the moment.

The setup is:

Neu 1708 1,5Y 20t pinion
CC 45HV, set hs 2750. 12khz and mid timing.
Turnigy 2x 4s 2200mah 30c
Mini Vbar
Mavrikk G5 blades

Here is the Eagletree

Humm, so you're getting 3000W at about 30V - so that's 100Amps though a CC45 and at only 2750HS? Clearly you have all current-limiting disabled in the ESC.

Does anyone know if anyone has ever built a dyno for measuring these power setups. I've been wondering, for a long time, how much of this power is actually getting to the rotor. I'm not talking about using theoretical eff. figures...I mean an actual brake HP measurement.
I have to find the time to build one...one of these days. I got the variable brake and load cell...just not the time to put it together. ;(

I went through this exercise for super tiny pager-motor/gear systems several years back, but haven't seen anyone do it on larger systems. Have you seen the data logging in the new CC ICE controllers? They report a power-in and power-out. I wonder if the difference is just the losses to drive the BEC and the efficiency of the controller?

Back in about 1989 I visited the Youngbloods in Texas, and they had rigged up kind of a sketchy device for measuring power out of the blades. They had a table with a lazy-Susan attached to it, and they strapped the heli to this so that the heli could pivot freely on the table. Then they anchored the lazy-Susan with a large spring so that the spring would stretch as the heli pivoted. Then they removed the tail, fired it up (an X-Cell 60 at the time) and cranked up the throttle and pitch. Power-out is torque times headspeed (in radians/second), so they measured torque by how much the spring stretched and the headspeed optically. The table was not one to inspire a lot of confidence, and with the X-Cell screaming on it, it took a bit of courage to go under it with an optical tach. A video of this procedure might easily find it's way onto the most dangerous videos https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=149589 thread.
