Default 690SX one way bearing recall

Hi all,

Perhaps you have already seen it on http://www.vstabi.info/en/forum but Mikado are advising not to fly the 690SX until they issue a new OWB. Current ones that are shipped are not up to their standard.

Eddi is asking for all current 690SX owners to get in touch with them.

More details are on the VSTABI forum under 500/600 questions.

IT's a pain, but I would sooner know BEFORE I plant it due to failure than after, and knowing Mikado it will be dealt with in a timely manner.
Bummer as I JUST fitted my Logo 600 SE into a Mikado Hughes 500 fuselage and the 690 was a replacement pod and boom heli.

Is the US market effected by this recall?
My 690 build is almost completed. Guess I'll call Mikado tomorrow.

Sooo...Any more news on this? I see Mik-USA has the new combo in stock with MKS servos just back in stock but in general they have been out of all kits. wondering if they are just holding stock until Mikado issues an official fix...

There aren't any specifics yet on an availability date. It is their top priority, that much we do know. Since it's Mikado we can be sure they won't send anything out until they're confident the problem is fixed.

I wonder what happened after the likes of Kyle did their testing and producing marketing videos to the kits being boxed?

Don't know.. But at least one 690sx was used in competition during the 3D Masters in Venlo last week in the Advanced class. And they showed it during their demo slot?

They haven't said exactly what happened or why. We do know because Dave posted it, that the OWB Kyle used in testing is not the same part that ended up in the release kits, and that the change was not likely deliberate.

Smile 690 is sweet.

My new 690 kit is sweet. 1 More Part And She Is Ready To fly. I wish I knew is the one way bearing locks up or allows for Auto rotation when it fails.. Fly and Auto. You can do this...

BTW. This kit is very nice. Anyone on the fence should just buy it. The pics in the sales website do it no justice. This thing is big. Bad. And beautiful (sp).

The bearing strips out when it fails, so you lose all power. You can auto when it happens but it's recommended to not fly because if you get caught in a bad orientation or under hard collective without enough room to regain headspeed, it could result in an expensive and/or dangerous crash.

Why can't you just use two Mikado 600 OWB stacked?
It wouldn't have the same surface area as a single OWB but it would be better than
just staring at the brand new 690SX sitting on the shelf... IMO

That can work if you make some other modifications as well. Arrange the stacked bearings so that the top one is flush with the top of the hub, the bottom one will hang down past the bottom of the hub. The bushings and third bearing block will be left out. It works but it's not an approved design so if you try it and something goes wrong, don't blame me! Safest option is definitely to wait for the official fix from Mikado.

Great news!

Just got word that Mikado is thoroughly testing the replacement OWB and "may" be available at Mikado USA as early as next week.

So they ended up with a New twin one way bearing setup....

Is that another way of saying two logo 500/600 OWB stacked

Hey if it works GREAT!

LOGO 690 SX with the new twin bearing one way hub (0 min 50 sec)

I suspect there is a more scientific way of testing the OWB but the video was fun to watch!

Essentially, but an approved/tested arrangement of stacked OWBs fitted and QC'd by Mikado, which is different than just telling everyone to find some spare bearings and press them into a hub that wasn't made for it. The latter is, of course, what the team pilot did who initially suggested the solution.

As I suspected it would, the new solution allows for stacked bearings while still keeping the third bearing block (which has been redesigned along with the hub.)
