Servo Inquiry
I've been searching for my next heli. I have narrowed my choices down to three (maybe four) and I'm compiling a spreadsheet along with electronics for each. The Protos 500 CF is on this list - really high on the list. From what I've gathered reading on the Protos forum, the Futaba S9650 and MKS DS9660A seems to be a popular choice for the cyclic. Has anyone used Hyperion servos on the Protos 500 CF? If so, which model(s) Hyperion and what has been your experience with them? Also would like to hear about any other brand(s) that have successfully/reliably been used on the Protos.
Thanks! Kenny

I have spent the past couple of days going through the Protos threads and I do not recall seeing any mention of Hyperion servos. As far as "Servo" threads, I see one other thread within the past hour, not 17, why the negative attitude because I asked a question? That is totally uncalled for.

My take on servos is, if you have had reliable use with that brand, and they are up to the task speed and torque wise, why not? Case dimension is also important with the way the Protos is built, but all this info could be gleaned off the appropriate sites.
I think that may be part of the attitude of the above poster... Personally I am a Futaba or Hitec man, but I've heard great things about MKS. Didn't even know Hyp made servos. Learn something new everyday?

Hyperion does make servos and their price point is less than other name brands. Over the years my experience on helicopters has been with Futaba servos, never had a problem with them and know they are reliable. I know nothing about Hyperion servos, but if they are of quality and they are reliable then I see no reason not to save some money, thus the question.
Here is a link to Hyperion servos: http://www.hyperion-world.com/products/type/14 Thanks! Kenny

id really love to have the mks servos, but the futabas are much more in my price range, and plenty of people use them on a FBL p500
no experience with the hyperions though

I’ve been running Hyperion servos since I got my protos used about a year ago. I use Hyperion Atlas Digital Servo DS20x-SMD for cyclic servos. I switch to stretch tail boom about 2 months ago and switch to Hyperion Atlas Digital Servo DS16-FMD for tail servo.
I’m learning 3D now and I’ve been practicing piro flips, rainbow, tic toc and the basic 3d stuff. To me, the Hyperion servos have been doing fine with this style of flying. I’m not sure if I can tell the different by switching to better servos. The reason I’m saying this is because I used to fly my Mini Titan with hitec mg65 for hundred of flights. For the last few months, I switched them to hyperion digital micro servos. Honestly speaking, I can’t really tell the different between the hitec and hyperion servos. Guess I’m not good enough to tell the difference. Btw, both helis are in fbl running beastx.

Thanks for the response Whto. I'm glad to hear of the positive experience you have received with the Hyperion servos. It is the price that's attractive to me. I've read about the Hyperion Atlas DS 20 GMD (.05 speed on 6V ~ $38) on the tail of 500 T-rex. Just haven't heard of experiences on Protos.
I guess I am really confused about something, I had downloaded the manual for the Protos 500 CF and it looked like to me that the servos listed in the manual for cyclic were all mini or slim format, are you saying that you can put full size cyclic servos in the Protos? I ask this because everything I have read about the DS20X SMD says they are full size servos. Apparently I am overlooking something. Thanks, Kenny

Kenny,
My bad. I put them the other way around. Cyclic servos: DS16-FMD Tail servo: DS20x-SMD Didn't proof read well enough And yes, I bought them because of their competitive pricing.

LOL, no problem Whto. Based on that then, 3X (DS16-FMD) @ 36.95 + 1X DS 20 GMD @ 38.00 = $148.85 for servos all the way around. That is not bad at all. Thanks again for your input.
Kenny
