Blade 130X Setup for Success (Compiled list of fixes)
After looking through this forum I haven't seen a thread with a list of all the fixes/mods for the 130X, so I've compiled most of the ways to get rid of the resonance/vibration as well as the tail wag (If you have it)
If you have anything to add please do! All fixes/mods can be found on YouTube or here on HeliFreak. Thank you to all of the people who discovered them!! Fixes/mods: -Balance the tail blades, this is just simple guesswork to begin with. Start by adding a piece of tape to the middle of either tail blade. Spool up, if vibrations get worse, remove the tape and add it to the other tail blade. Then adjust for maximum performance by moving the tape up and down the blade. Remember to wrap the tape around the leading edge of the blade so it doesn't fall off. -Purchase the $3 tail pushrod guide (part# BLH3721) and install it on the tail boom between the already installed pushrod guide and the tail case. You might have to, "Open up" the interior of the guide so that the pushrod can move freely. I did this with an X-acto knife. -CA a piece of carbon fiber to the trailing edge of the tail fin. This can reduce vibrations and strengthen the fin. -Cut an mCPX grommet in half, then install one of the halves on the bottom of the tail on the ball where the tail pushrod attaches, and the other half on the top of the tail where the ball link is attached to the tail pitch slider. -Remove the rubber o-rings on the swashplate as well as from the main grip arms and replace them with the included canopy grommets/mounts. This will greatly reduce play. -Put a drop of CA in the area where the torque tube emerges from the tail boom and from the large tail gear. (Gear C) -Push the tail boom in as far as possible until A and B gears start to bind. Then pull out ever so slightly. This reduced resonance for quite a few people. -Straighten the tail shaft. Doing this completely terminated vibrations for many. Instructions can be found in the following link: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=443167 -Purchase a set of Boca Bearings which will go into the tail. These bearings may significantly reduce vibration. Here are two links for where to buy them: http://www.bocabearings.com/search.a...0X+BNF&Feature http://www.bocabearings.com/bearing-...x-bnf-electric -If Boca Bearings don't suit you, purchase a set of BLH3727 1.5x4x1.12 Bearings. (2) Place these into the right and left side housings in the tail while keeping the stock bearings installed as well. Here's a link to the mod: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=448222 -Adjust the gyro gains for best performance, here's a link on how to do that: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=429592 -Extend the boom supports for increased rigidity in the tail boom. This greatly cuts down on vibration. Also, add a 4mm CF tube in the frame to decrease flex. Lastly, if you do not wish to extend the boom supports, purchase the 300X supports and cut them down to fit the 130. All 3 mods can be found in this thread: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=443278 -If all else fails, simply remove the tail fin. For some folks, this diminished most resonances. -Lastly, here are two links to a gear mesh related fix which can reduce tail wag: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=434332 https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=434482 Note that some of these methods may not completely work for you, but they have worked for others, including me! Hope this helps! BigEast Last edited by WillJames; 01-28-2013 at 09:15 AM.. Reason: Remove one fix per OP |

For the tail pushrod guide mod, i had to trim some of the interior of the guide so that my pushrod didnt bind at all. Maybe mine is bent? but it worked great!
Question about the boca bearings. Are the two links the same bearings? Also two bearings per tail i assume?

Very nice write up, I hope you emailed this to HH as mine is going to sit on the shelf until HH comes up with some fixes.
But your post might have motivated me to do some of this on the long weekend coming up. thanks..... Craig |

Craig, I'll be sure to get this to HH! Maybe a V2 is around the corner? Anyways I bet you'll enjoy working on this heli, the results are extremely rewarding

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this bird for the first 10 flights or so. I'm a pretty good pilot and never crashed it or had a bad landing but it just went crazy with the tail vibs. I work alot but enjoy my weekends working and flying my helis. It's just I'm use to knowing whats wrong with my other helis when they act up, even my T-Rex 250, so I kinda know where to start. But this bird is totally different, maybe it's too small for my 55 years old eyes, but just chasing problems is driving me crazy.
All my other birds I can figure out where to start, with the 130 it's like anything can make it act up. Like I said, I really enjoyed it, come home from work, fired it up and did some mild 3-D in the back yard....was just what I wanted. But now ...... I really have know idea what to buy, most pilots flying this thing just joined HF this year that are giving advice. I'm not saying they don't know how to fly or that they haven't been flying for years, but it's hard taking their advice. I don't want this thing to become a money pit, and would rather put money into my 250 making it FBL....which is probably the way I'll go based on what the 130 has done to me. Craig |

I completely understand what Craig is talking about. Lots of new flyers, lots of new ideas floating around. Some of them good some of them not so much.
I myself am part of the "just joined" crowd. But as a Boeing engineer I have a decent grasp on mechanical engineering. And through painful trail and error I seem to be slowly grasping it all. Im guessing the increased attention to the hobby can only be good in the long run. Once we all have gone threw some growing pains ourselves Till then bs sifting skills will be required.

Thanks guys, like I said even new members have something to give. Me I started flying helis back in the early 90's but didn't join HF until just a few years ago.
I do have to say I learned more here on HF the first two months than I did on my own the first five years. Like I said in my last post, I'm just not sure this 130 is worth my time right now. My mCPX seems to be much more stable, or at least more consistant. This sub-forum is like, buy this, buy that....it will fix your problem. I've just seen this too many times before. So, for me I think I should just wait for V2. As much as I like working on my helis, it's just with this bird I don't know where to start. I'm glad people like you are doing what you're doing, but at this point I just don't want to be a part of it. I hope you can understand what I'm saying. I think, starting my heli experence back in the early 90's with no HH gyros, slow servos, pitch curves that you would never beleive and mixing on the throttle stick...hell I've already paid my dues. Just saying. I bought this for a quick backyard after work fun heli, and it was for just a few flights. Now it's just too much work. Hope you can understand, Craig |

Alright, I'll give them a try this weekend and report back.

The Boca bearings and Microheli pitch slider completely removed the resonance/vibes for me. Of course it's really sad that Horizon puts out a heli that I had to spend an additional $60 on to get it flying correctly but that subject has been beat to death.

I honestly still don't know exactly what I'm doing. Still experimenting, this is my first TT heli and experience with crown gears.
The only thing I'm reasonably convinced of is once you can spin the main rotor passively and everything is smooth and not wobbly and the tail nicely balanced she tends to behave. Even with the gammy gyro which I subtrimmed out. I don't have the o-rings yet (they're on the way) by the way. (I thought it silly to trouble the O-Ring Saint to spend something silly shipping them down under, so I just ordered me own).
