Shouldn't Align be jumping on that train finally ? I'm wondering why they seem to ignore the whole story ?

If they kept the same gear diameter, it should come out around 115 teeth.

I just got sent a mod 1 gear and pinion from a company called FA Design in Canada. They will be selling them soon (around mid April). The gear looks great and is CNC'ed. I will be doing a review and having Fireup ring the hell out of it in a week or 2.

Trust me this is another great way to go if your having a gear stripping problem. This gear is STOUT man... It's also black so you don't see the dirt....

Stay tuned....

Bob

Good question. It's not even listed (as of last night) on the MicroHeli website yet so no info there.

Ding, ding. We have a winner. I just enhanced the contrast on the HeliDirect photo and counted by hand. 115 on the main gear and 14 on the pinion giving a gear ratio of 8.21 vs. 8.20 for the Mod 0.7 set up. Now I need to go shop for Mod 1, 6mm pinions for my 700E.

The gear set I got from FA Designs is:

The stock gear ratio is actually 8.2:1
(164T Main Gear to 20T Pinion)

Our Mod 1 gear set Ratio is 8.21:1 (Same as stock ratio)
(115T Main Gear to 14T Pinion)

Darn, I need a 11-12 tooth Mod1.0 pinion for a 6mm shaft. The ONLY Mod1.0 electric pinion that I can find, period, is a 13T Revco with a 5mm hole. That would drive my governor setpoint down to 50% with the new maingear.

So, anyone know of any other sources for Mod1.0 electric pinions?

Check what the Raptor E620 or E550 has for pinions.... Not sure but they might have something.

Hirobo Eagle has 6mm mod 1 (10, 11, 12T), Scorpion sells them too as accessories.

Interesting that HeliDirect got some of these before MicroHeli even officially announced them or put them on their own website? According to the USPS tracking number, mine left Boston on Friday. We'll see.

Received my M1.0 gearsets. They look as advertised. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test them until Friday or Saturday at the earliest. It's gonna be one of those weeks...

Mine came as well today. At first look I'm not very enthusiastic about it.

  • teeth on the main gear are cut to a fine point
  • the teeth on the pinion are cut to a flat point
  • the new delrin main gear still has about the same flexibility as the old stock gear
I pulled out a spare MA gear I have and the difference in the cut of the teeth is quite a substantial. The new pinion meshes very smooth on the MA gear but is very notchy/grabby on the microheli gear...well at least as testing by hand on the bench and not mounted.

I got through a gallon yesterday and today on the third bearing mod with an original pre -1 gear. I was timid at first but by the last flight started feeling confident to toss it around harder. So, I'm going to let this mod 1 gear sit for awhile until I get more time on the third bearing setup. I can notice as well as the guys I was flying with is that my 700 sounds a lot different now with the third block. Much more solid if thats the way to describe it. I've also noticed a difference in spool up vibs. I used to always have a low frequency vib in the tail and some large bubbling in the tank while getting up to speed. Now their is now visible vib in the tail but my tank foams something fierce! Visually my 700 is vibration free now except for the tank. Something is going on ??? The third block has definitely tighten up my 700 but is also may not be a true as I figured on the bench. Maybe trading on source of vibrations for another. But overall it does feel like an improvement in the air and the sound is much more tight/solid if not more quite.
