My HeliXheli Trex 600 OS GT15 Conversion
I've been building this heli for a while. Ordered a new design GT15 piston but it took 1.5 month to arrive but finally I've completed the heli and it's ready for maiden. However temp is -6C here so I will not be able to maiden it very soon.
I always wanted a light weight gasser with a 90 size gas engine. Finally someone made the conversion. This conversion is currently BETA but as I know the one I have is very close (or even same) to the RTM version. The one I have is made from G10 but the consumer product will be CF. It uses Trex 700 clutch, bell, engine clutch mount and start shaft. The rest is Trex 600. The only con I find in this conversion is installing/removing the engine-shroud. You need to remove the clutch bell/pinion hub first to remove/install the engine. Not a big problem though. I made some modifications/addition to the heli. You need to drill a hole to the fan shroud if you want to use the choke of the carb but the choke is still too far from reach. So I machined a small arm for it. You can see it in the video. For the main gear driven generator alternator please fallow this link. Thanks to jockstrap for helping me on the build. Thanks for watching.

That is so cool!!!
Congratulation! I am waiting for my frames as well. Hoping to get them next week. I will get a set of CF-frames from the second batch. Hopefully the GT15 runs better now with the new piston (got two eng. failures with the old one). Please let us know any experience you will make with that conversion. Regards Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I'll keep posting the updates here.
Good luck with your build.

What does the heli weigh? I picked up a hwc t600 conversion as the heart of my 600 build but I'm afraid to break the seal on the box because I know it will end up with a high disc loading. It's a bummer that the gt15hz is discontinued as well, hopefully the gt15hz 600 will get released.

Weighs 4kg with the generator and all the upgrades. Without fuel.
Discontinued? Source?

Yup, there is a post somewhere, maybe the thread about them all breaking. They are not continuing to build them. You posted in that thread a few times, thays why I was surprised to see you went through with the build anyway. But keep fingers crossed, it may work perfectly fine for you man.

I hope so dude. I started it on the ground. Runs nice but haven't flown yet.

Dang, I have been looking for that post, but can't find it. But I'm onymy phone right now. Someone emailed them about a problem or something and got a response back that the motor had been discontinued and at the time no plans for re introduction were expected. Something like that man.....

I swear I read the same post, but I can't find it either lol. But that is where I got my information from, how true that is I don't know. If it is true it would really suck for HeliXheli.

yea, i know i read it too. he may have gone back and edited it to be honest, i dont even remember who posted it. i thought it was in the gt15hz mod thread where the guy had never got the heli in the air, and he had emailed them, but i could be wrong. the post isnt there now anyway.... but he did say they told him the motor was discontinued and there were no plans to pick it back up anytime soon, but replacement parts would still be available. the poster even copied and pasted the email from os in his post.....

First flight went very well. I run the engine with the needles L 1 1/4 and H1 3/4 (factory defaults). I had to cut the flight short because I was about to lose some fingers. It's very cold here.
I didn't used a separate battery for the ignition. Single 3 cell lipo for all. I'll activate the generator for the next flight and see how it works. Any suggestion about generator wiring on EI helis would be appreciated.

Nice canopy! !
With one single batterie I had sudden tail movements on my T-700. That was really scary and dangerous. Sudden 90° turn on the ground while spooling up for lift of. After using two separate lipos it was OK. But that maybe depends on your setup. In my case it was V-bar with Graupner HOTT receiver and 2s HV system. Good luck!! Dennis

I twice helicopter crashed due to power from a single battery. I checked on the ignition oscilloscope, it is very noisy - there are pulses in 10 volts.

Thanks for the recommendations.
So far so good. I burned the second tank today. The motor runs very smooth. Even with the needles at factory defaults (L 1 1/4, H 1 3/4). I use Castrol Fully synthetic 2T oil with 1:25 ratio. This motor consumes very little fuel so emptying a full tank takes too long. Much longer than a Zenoah.

That will change after break in. In my T-700 I flew almost one our with one tank (700ml) while breaking in and only hovering around. After that I got about 18-20min sports and soft 3D flight time. Also the engine starts to get "dirty" when you go inverted cause the oil then comes out of the carb and splitts around in the fan shroud and over the zylinder head. But anyway It sounds cool and most probably works now with the new piston.
regards Dennis
