Default DPS-1200FB server power supply getting very hot

Hey All, I just bought a modified server psu off of a vendor at IRCHA. I charge mostly small packs, and my current charger can only charge at 50w max. When charging at low currents, like I always do, or below 4.3a, the psu gets very hot. Something like 120f. Is this normal?

The fan is supposed to be self regulating and it is on, albeit at a very low speed and it never ramps up above that very slow speed except for when I first plug it in for a split second.

I'm wondering if this is normal, or if the fan speed is regulated by current draw instead of temp and after long charges, it doesn't know it should kick the fan on. I use it to charge a small pb battery that I take with me to the field to refuel my mcpx, 130,and 450 packs. Since this pb battery is only 14ah, it must be charged very slowly <2a, and can take hours to recharge. After one of those charge sessions the psu is so hot I'm worried it will melt the plastic case I use it in. There is plenty of ventilation in the case, as I leave it wide open.

Pictures attached.

Did I get a psu that is too large to handle my small packs?

Let me know what you all think.

Mine gets very warm around the green label area when I use it. I've had mine over a year. However, I modified my own.

This is hot all over. I don't have a good way to measure temp right now, but I can only hold for 5 or 6 seconds before I have to take my hand away.

The fan is temp controlled. When the charger is idle or charging 3s packs at 1 amp mine is warm and the fan does not run constantly. Just here and there. Unless that fan is spooled up all the time I wouldn't worry about it.

ok, I guess I won't worry about it. Though I do think I'm gonig to do some sort of stand offs to prevent that heat from warping the toolbox I'm mounting it in.

Thanks all.

I'm experiencing the same thing with these PSU's.

I'm going to add 1-2 case fans to exhaust the heat more quickly. I'll just wire them directly to the 12VDC output on one of my supplies.

I am typically charging at 2-30amps.

I have 3 in series and my fans run all the time, but pretty much at idle speed, when I just leave them plugged in they may ramp up and sound like a ducted fan jet then they ramp back down. Mine are enclosed in a case with 2 additional case fans, but I never noticed them real hot, the air exiting through one of the fans is pretty warm but the other is not too bad. I've been extremely satisfied with my self modded PS setup.
