Default New FBL System...RoBird G31. Looks promising!

I ran across this today....

http://www.*******************/produ...arless-system/ It's at rc heli resource . com

Buy it here (includes set up videos):

http://www.skyhobbies.com.sg/pagelin...RobirdG31.html

Looks almost like a BeastX clone.

Not a bad price either.

Can you compare it to the BeastX?

I have a G31 and 2 Beastx's - for my level of flying (sports - lots of loops and flips, learning inverted) I can't tell any difference - the next FBL unit that I buy will either be a G31 or a s/h Beastx

Is the Robird set up similar to setting up the Beast?

No - it is set up via a PC

Default Robird G31

I have a couple of the Robird G31 gyros on my 450 helis.

Pros:
Easy to program (see caveat below about the instructions though)
Can be set up with transmitter sticks or PC software (PC set up is better)
Supports satellite receivers and S.Bus
Low cost alternative to more expensive gyros
Works on 250 to 700 size helis
Frequents firmware updates
The software has a Performance tab and allows you to conduct a Vibration Analysis. Pretty sophisticated software but is mostly intuitive.

Cons:
Instruction manual could be more detailed. You can find more and more info about this gyro on the forums.
Support is mainly limited to online forums but try Phantom-RC.com and Sky Hobby Singapore.
Can be intolerant of cheap servos. Works well with most though, esp. KST 115MG and 215MG.

The Robird G31 is the original gyro, others market them as AlzRC and Black Widow.

On my 450's they work very well and I think they fly comparable to the BeastX. I've installed them with a seperate receiver as well as with a Spektrum satellite with no problems. i;'ve yet to try one on a larger heli but from what I've seen the G31 will work well.

I personally like that you can use a PC to set it up as the software allows for more precise tuning than transmitter sticks alone. I fly my helis frequently without any problem.

All fbl controllers are designed to achieve the same result: trying to duplicate the flight characteristics of a fb heli. As such, they are all going to have many of the same properties such as programming and set-up. They are going to look similar because you have to enclose the circuitry, attach the servo wires, and view your set-up progress via lights and dials. There's only so much a designer/engineer can do with this aspect of the fbl controller.

Comments about the G31 being a BeastX clone are untrue. For one thing you can't program a BeastX with PC software. Nor does the BeastX have the governor functionality.

Also, the BeastX doesn't have the Performance and Vibration Analysis functionalities that the G31 does.

The BeastX has been around longer and has a dedicated following. It's got a better manual and more WW support than the G31 does.

For the most part all fbl controllers are different, but in some ways they are all the same....

There's extensive discussion of this system on RCG. By all accounts, it is not a clone of anything. The ALZRC 3GY V2 is a G31 clone, though.

Try this:
www.phantom-hobby.com

There's not much there right now but I'm told they are working on adding more content. This is the preferred website from Liu at Robird (they guy who runs the company).

Try this in the United States:
www.tarot-rc-heli.com

He's got a few G31s and I've been helping him out with technical assistance.

Or you can always PM me and I will respond directly.

Governor is already available, and in fact the SkyHobbies site has a note in red that the new versions come with a governor sensor.

According to someone on an RCG thread, this one does. He says:

"The Hobbywing RPM sensor that you've identified will work with the G31 Governor functionality. Plug the sensor into the "RS/GainPitAx" port, the 3in1 one."

Download the software and run it in "Demo" mode, when you hover your mouse cursor on those values a ballon description will appear helping you to understand those functions. Hope this helps.
