Talking Building the Protos in stages

We'll the Black Friday fairies showed up at work yesterday and I got my new Protos. As Christmas is here I am going to have to wait on servos, probably February. I'm thinking about going with the Savox 1250's and 1290 for the tail but I want to start building the heli now in case any parts are missing etc., I also want to see it on the shelf instead of in the box I am thinking about building it and leaving loctite off the parts I will have to remove for the servos but not sure if that will cause more problems down the road. I don't want to make life harder if I have to start tearing things apart to get servos and wires installed. Anyone see any issues with this approach, something I might miss since it's my first Protos build.

I realize I will need to adjust linkages etc after the fact but I am ok with it. Thanks.

You can do it but in my opinion, builds go easier when you have your electronics and can route wires with various parts removed

Just build it . Build the servo cage first, you need to have this as it needs to be sandwiched between the left and right frame half as it is part of the rigidity / strength of the Protos. Then the frame as it is easy and straight forward complete with shaft, bearing supports, motor support and gear. Assemble the head and put the tail together and look at it for a while. No need to tighten the nuts and bolts at this point. Figure out where the wiring will go. There are some nifty routings you can do because in the frame you will find some spaces that you can hide the leads into. Another decision is where to put the FBL unit .. either on the back of the heli ( on top of the boom) or underneath the main shaft, some say that if you crash the shaft might pierce the FBL unit and that will cost you. Mine are all on the tailboom as it is also easier to set up and access.

Thanks doesn't look like I will run into to much frustration. This will be my biggest build so far and looking forward to bigger bits as the 450 can be frustrating some times. As much as I want to see it built I also want to make sure it's not missing anything as I have seen some posts where kits were missing hardware etc. Not sure if my kit will be affected but I figure better safe than sorry several months from now when I am ready to maiden.

Just waiting for the orange tail blades and skids from msh direct, just wanted a little orange flare. My first order with msh direct and I got the shipping email ten minutes after I made the order and it was on Sunday night! Will definately order again.

Bill at MSH Direct is 1 of the best people to deal with

Enjoy your build and as stated in other posts, We're her to assist. Protos is a pretty straight fwd build. assembling without electronics, just leave servo bkts loose as it is easier to install rear 2 servos on frames then install as assembly. The side servo can easily be installed after frames in place.
