Default Altitude Hold Gain

I have been doing some tuning on my SK 720/GPS setup and just wanted to confirm some details around Altitude hold gain.

- I understand that its like tail gain... wind it up until oscillation occurs, then back it off a touch. Is this a high speed oscillation like tail wag, or quite a bit slower?

- Will running a lower gain affect the ability of the Hard Deck rescue to save me when I get too low, or does the gain manage only the accuracy and holding of the altitude, and the Hard Deck rescue will always use the control rates I have configured in the cyclic setup to get the heli back to 10metres ASAP?

-If I have my control rates set up fairly tame (because I am still very much a beginner!) is there a way to configure things so that the hard deck will give it everything to get back to above the deck? I am thinking more expo in my Tx and higher control rates maybe?

I am quite happy to experiment, but so far the advice I have been given here has saved me hours of trial and error, so thank you all for your help!

Cheers
Dave

=] Dave, what you are looking for on the gain is to fly in some wind (gusty preferably) and listen for the rotor to pulse, position hold is ideal for setting this. calm conditions won't really tell you much. the heli can also pogo at the same time as the rotor pulses.

I dropped to 10% yesterday, no adverse affects, usually at 20% here.

yes, use 3D control rates and Tx rates & expo is the way to go...

Thanks Georgi,
I had a try this afternoon and went from 50% to 20%. so much better!.
increased expo 5% and increased control rates... seems pretty good, but will try increasing control rates some more as I get used to it.
Thanks again!
Dave
