Default these pinions are really starting to suck.

got a new pinion for my used mini and it was bad from the get go it would lock up till upi held the blades and turned the motor unlocking it. so when flying t was pretty much always locked. that was ok but a very mild crash with th in plenty of time it gave way and just spun.
second pinion world fine maybe at most 15 flights and with a new motor first flight it gives out lucky lots of very soft grass and only broke the skids. they are all 16t and I sure don't fly hard and I did not even have a hard landing.

Well suckage has jumped up several levels new pinion died after 30 seconds went from 2500 to 3000 rpm (pretty close but need to check the esc) and the pinion gave up and another crash. I can't afford to fly this heli and I am going to fear it will crash every flight. Bottom plate cracked frame broken landing gear broken grip is all I can see right now.

I feel your pain, buddy. I have had my dose of expensive MSH crap a well. The only crashes I've had so far have been with the mini because of faulty pinions. This is my first and last Protos.

ya my x3 has been totally reliable and never a mechanical failure. I have another one on the way I am going to keep the rpms down try 2500 max and see but when you start not trusting your machine it stops being fun.

This is not good news! My original pinion finally gave up last week, and I'm not thrilled to hear about this suckage. Didn't I read at one time that a Trex 250 one way will fit?

Well I guess they don't crack. I have a warn one I will try keep it at 2500 but I don't see how the 250 could work the shaft is much smaller.
Talked to msh-direct and he said the company won't replace them even new in the bag cracked ones.

I've seen that as well, I actually got a HK250 OWB for like 1$, no clue how to get it properly in the pinion though.
It looks the same size anyway.

I forgot the 250 as a sleeve. but pressing out the old and putting in the new sounds tricky without cracking it. not sure heating up the aluminum does it shrink or expand.

I hope MSH is reading this. I was looking to replace my 450L with a Mini Protos but this made me change my mind.

I've had a Mini Protos almost since the day they were released, but if I can't get reliable pinions / one way bearings, it's as useful to me as a screen door on a submarine.

I bet you could use a warp 360 pinion but it would mean having a motor with a 3.17 shaft and no extra bearing support. but 16 is the smallest.

Maybe just drop in a 4mm motor shaft and be done with the counter bearing, that way we'd get rid of two dud things on this bird in one go. Think I might go this way when I use up all my good pinions.

Default these pinions are really starting to suck.

You would have to buy a new motor to get that shaft. Still cheaper then the 4 pinions I have bought.

My new mini protos is having some owb issues. Sometimes during spool up it seems like the pinion does not grab so the motor just spins without the rotors. After stopping the motor and spooling up again it grabs and seems to work fine. Is this common with these pinions? I'm scared to maiden it now

starting to seem too be. my mini was used but I ordered new pinions because the one it came with was warn. first was bad but worked ok till a light crash. the other two failed when I went from ui1 to 2.
I am going to get a warp pinion and use 3.17 shaft and if I have to replace the motor bearing more often then thats that.
but if the pinion is slipping it can drop out of the sky so watch it.

Why do say that? Just buy a shaft - I'd say this one probably works http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo.../HK2520_Shaft/
Then you can use the 4mm pinion from the Warp and I'd use a spacer set up between the bearing and the pinion to lock the shaft and do away with the circlip.
I'd even contemplate this motor for my 3s stretch http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo.../HK_2520_1880/

I need to get something straight here - the optional Warp pinion is 3.17 and the stock Mini P shaft is 3mm where the pinion goes, is that not a sloppy fit?

Ya I thought the shaft was 3.5 but it is 4mm. cool I will buy a shaft and the pinion today.
you have to replace the motor shaft as the mini is too small for a warp pinion.
not sure if you want a 25 motor those things are huge power more for the warp or the x3. Plus of course battery eaters.
