Tutorial - What charger? What power supply?

Guys, I got a new Junsi 1200watts PS and am thinking to buy a Duo 4010! Can any one please explain how the numbers will be when charging my batteries as fast as possible but safely? I would prefer to charge two 6S 5000-5300mAh batteries per port each time at 2C minimum!

The Junsi 1200 produce up to 65 amps i believe at 24V and the 4010 can pull up all that just for one port? Will the PS then divide the amparage for two ports to serve requirements of 2C per port?

I got confused a bit here, clarification is appriciated.

The S1200 can produce up to 55 amps not 65.

2 5000mah 6S packs per channel at a 2C charge rate would be 20 amps per channel. The S1200 and 4010 duo can do that without breaking a sweat.

Do some research on "buck and boost." Sometimes you need to adjust the PS voltage down to 22 or 23 volts to prevent buck and boost, otherwise you may run into an issue where the current fluctuates when charging at high rates. I've experienced that when running 24 volts. I lower the voltage down to 22v and then the current holds steady and all is well.

This means each port of the 4010 gets 700+ watts at 24V. That is fair enough making the 4010 ready to take more 700+ watts per port in case I use a larger PS!

Charger and PSU calculator

If you want to know what charger and PSU is needed for a specific charging setup have a look in this thread.

HP DPS 1200 F

To convert a single unit:

Solder positive and negative as shown.

Attach a 560 ohm resistor to the pins as show. Do NOT allow the solder to run over the other pins.

The resistor has been tested between 560 ohm and 1k ohm. It has no effect on output voltage or fan speed. Simply tells the server supply to make power.

There is a Pot inside the casing that will allow you to adjust voltage from 12.2 up to 12.8/9

I have been using this setup for 3 weeks now with a Hitec X2-400 (800w total) with no problems to report.

The fan will control it's own speed in this configuration. It is simple and puts out great power.

100v = 67amp 800w
110v = 75 amp 850w
200-240v = 100amp 1200w

Please extend a thank you to member EBlade for helping me with this mod. He has done most of the hands on work, as I have done the field testing.

Great supply and much smaller than the 47amp 575 watt options. It also uses a standard cable from your PC/Xbox.

question for you all, I have a powerlab 8 cellpro charger. if I want to charge two 6 s batteries at the same time, can I use a powersupply that is 12 volt output and 500 watts?

the calculator compares a lot of chargers and calculates their PSU needs. including the powerlab 8.

the calculator shows you'll never be able to charge two 5000mAh 6S at 5C. 4C is the maximum possible but u need at least 18.7V PSU output voltage to charge at that rate.

Yes, it should max out the charger so u can get rougly a 4C charge of 2 5000mAh 6S packs in parallel

While it seems a nice charge setup that you have in your car, concerns me the risk of fire IF anything goes wrong...

For me, I would rather extend the cables from the input batteries and put the charger on the table that you have outside the van.

Okay, here is what is quite possibly a stupid question.

I'm looking at getting the Thunder Power TP610C. I like it because I don't need a 2nd on my mortgage to pay for it, and it will charge not just the batteries on the 3S's for my 450 (that hasn't arrived yet), but it will also charge the NiCd batteries for my rock crawler, and pretty much whatever else I want to charge.

Now the stupid question, brace yourselves:

Will I be able to hook it to the cigarette lighter adaptor in my truck? It's (obviously) 12v, but I'd rather try to avoid buying another car battery to power it if I can just use the one in my car or my RV trailer if I need to charge my batteries while camping or park flying, etc...

Any suggestions?
