Default ThunderTiger RL .56 Ringed vs. OS 55 Hyper Ringed

Sorry if this has been asked about before; i've search around the forum without finding anything.

I am about to buy a motor for my 50 class heli. The OS 55 Hyper is a solid choise, but I've heard a lot great about the TT motors as well.

Does anyone have experience with the TT RL .56 ringed? And does anyone have experience with both the TT and OS-motor? How do they compare?

The TT has only one (two incl idle needle) tuning neddle, and the OS has two (three). How are the engines to tune compared to each other?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes. I agree with Jafa. Look at the price.

Ok, I see. But regarding the price I guess the Redline motor has its share of bang for the bucks, even though the O.S. Is better compared without looking at the money.

Or am I way out here?

I do not have an OS55 nor do I have the RL 56, but I do have the RL 53 and it has been a joy to operate. Soon as I found the right setting for the high speed needle, it has started with just a single short blip on the starter. Tuning was easy. It works and sounds great at the high end. It did have some hesitation in the mid range, but I have been able to adjust the idle screw to get rid of it. It has been a no trouble, solid, good performing engine. I am very happy, especially since it was my first nitro engine. I've read threads where people have not been able to get it to run properly, but it was no trouble for me. I'm currently using the smoothy pipe which will work fine on the 56. I have the high flow pipe as well, but I don't see any need to try it out yet. I started out with Rotor Rage, but switched to Cool Power. Mostly because it's more readily available in my area. It seems to provide more power and a cooler running engine. I was able to lean the engine out more with Cool Power than with Rotor Rage.

I don't think you can go wrong with the RL 56. If you do decide to get it and you run into any troubles just start a thread in this forum or send me PM and I will help out as much as I can.

I think the main issue with TT motors is the stock carbs can be a PIA to get running proper, with many giving up before they get them tuned.

OS carbs are dead simple to tune(relatively). One of the best motors IMO I've run in a 50 class was a ported TT53 with an OS 3 needle carb modded to fit the TT motor. I'd like to try the TT56 but I don't feel like buying one just to experiment with.

Generally, I found the internals of the TT motors to be superior in craftsmanship and durability to OS motors, especially as someone who ports motors and runs higher RPMs, the TT motors hold up excellent IMO.
