So a friend of mine hauls in this R/C boat...
...and sez 'Here, you can have this. I don't fool with it anymore.'
From what I can tell, its a Prather Lap Cat II, with some manner of internal combustion engine on the back. Its real dusty, but all the parts seem to be there. So far all I've fooled with is Electric Helis. Anybody out there know anything 'bout boats?

I still don't get why they don't make some with counter rotating props. Like a volvo duo prop set up. Owner of my LHS is very into boats. Says they put up fencing around the lake (in case a boat gets out of control) and people still climb over it to watch the races. I've seen a nasty pic of what a metal RC boat prop did to a guy's foot. Not being a safety nazi, just a heads up to respect it as you do a heli/plane. |

In my line of work, safety is always a priority. Nonetheless, I appreciate the heads-up. I'm planning to visit my LHS soon anyway. They're bound to know more than me!

You'd be surprised how many people are 100% safety-oriented on the job, and then go really mess themselves up on the weekend doing something dumb, careless, etc.
Really, it staggers the imagination!

Yeah I have two Prather Lap Cats. That's probably a K&B 3.5 or 7.5 outboard nitro motor.
I built mine in 1980, they have a turn fin mid center on the hull and once properly trimmed and sorted out will do up to 40 mph. We used to race them on an oval course. they've become extinct with electric outrunners and lipos. An electric boat can out run a nitro all day long and much less noise and mess. Good luck - parts are still available for the motor and hull |
