My first attempt turned out ok. It was done on satin finish photo paper. Here is the second go round, but this time with Premium Glossy paper, oh ya!

On the subject of grommets. One easy way to create grommets is to first create your holes to postion your canopy. Then on the inside of the canopy put a little round blob of silicone over the hole and about a sixteenth around the hole. Let this setup. After that take a large T pin and carefully push a hole throu the silicone. Voila Grommet!

For the grommet holes, I just stick a small piece of ultra thin clear plastic tape on each hole inside the canopy as a reinforcement. The tape is then pierced with a sharp pointed scribing tool. I also apply a small piece inside the nose area so my canopy is still holding up after countless bumps and repeated removal.

I made a canopy out of typing paper and spray painted it fluorescent orange as a test to see if it would improve visibility. Big improvement! It really glows in the evening sun. (The fluorescence doesn't show at all in this cell phone picture.)

nice idea. I might try that with my current canopy when i get a new one. These things are hard to see sometimes.

I can see now that it's time to get back on photoshop and start making myself some custom canopies. Gotta love being able to make custom canopies so easily.

OK, I borrowed the template from the OP and did one up for fun and to see if I could remember my Photoshop stuff. What do y'all think of this for a first attempt?

Hi guys,
this is awesome. Thank you so much! What quality/weight of paper are you guys using? Photographic or just plain old 75g/m2?

Hey jackheli,
Glad you are enjoying your mCPx. For My canopies I used Photo Paper. Get the high gloss, That way you will get the glass canopy look. I used Kodak, but any of the brands will work. |
