Default Got myself a free heli at the field

Went to the field to fly my 50 titan when this guy gives me a raptor with a os70, futaba 9202, with 9254 on tail, 401 gyro. Needs double link, torc tube assembly, flybar etc,, etc..
Not knowing much about the 60 - 90 size figured bigger heli hell yeaSo the 60 size is discontinued what does that mean for my 70? Is this worth building.

No, it's a piece of junk. Send that pile to me..... YES it is rebuildable and totally worth it. The Raptor 60 is alive and well. Parts are 100% available and even easier to get now that Hobbico has taken over distribution of Thunder Tiger in the US.

The Raptor 60 powered by OS70 with 680mm blades is a great combination. I own several OS70 powered Raptors, one with a 90 tail and 903D head on it. They all fly great and are crazy durable. They don't hardcore 3D being an older design that could use to lose some weight but they are very nice everyday fliers.

Totally worth building. Parts are readily available at either Heliproz and Tower. I agree with the previous post, they aren't hardcore 3D'ers as they are pretty heavy, but they are great flyers.

Got all the linkage to spec gonna pull the Ar7000 off my broken raptor 30 got the torc tube together the guy that gave it to me had some parts and manual but Im looking for the bolts had to put the tail together and I put the boom on today No 3D "" that sucks"" Gonna build it for sure Im missing the lever for the tail and not sure the size of the boom might be 90 size Will the tail servo link rod still reach? The boom is brand new. Should I sell the 70 engine and get a 90? Will that make it 3D. Im thinking before I buy CF blades. not sure what size the woodies are but I will get it flying soon enough.

There are a few other things to change to turn it into a 3d longer tail boom bigger blades I think e main gear may change but I'm not sure...
they are still heavy by modern design standards.

Sounds like a good score to me, well done.

FYI I have a flying friend that has a Raptor 60 with an OS 60 and he flys every 3D move there is with it. But he's been flying since he was five years old!

Good to know about the clutch . Are there any other differances? I assume pinion, engine, boom, blades. I figure the motor mounts fan starter shaft are the same.

here is the kit, its been years since i did the conversion. there is 2 different lenght tail booms so you have to get the right tail drive tt to match if you piece the kit together
also read up on the tail drive gear pin mod that fixes the pin with a piece of heat shrink tubing to keep the tail drive from failing, it happened to mine and piroeted so fast the battery came unplugged and all i could do was watch it fly away

the 60 and 90 are different in gearing, clutch, bell, boom- I think.

you can't go wrong with a Raptor, I had one for a couple years that I just got rid of. Only reason is so that I can fly my Jr VIbe 90.

I'd say on all the heli's I've owned, the Raptor 90SE/3D I've got is hands down the best. Easy to fly, no bad tendencies, parts everywhere, will fly mild to wild and is built like a tank.

Do I go with the 680 cf blades or bigger for 3 D flying with my os 70? There is a pair on Ebay for a $100 . Great planes has discontinued 680's. I fly pretty good multiple forward ail flips, inverted hovering and traveling, backward verted flying is were Im at so far still working on good stick control for Tic toc's.
Based on what I read here looks like this heli will do what I tell it to do. Just depends on who's flying it IMO. I have been wrong about these things.
690 mm cf blades are readily available for purchase. I just need a little guidance.

I'd say that it would swing 690s but it would bog less with the 680s. If you can get a good price on them they should be worth trying.
A lot of guys fly their 90s with 690s if that tells you anything.

Based on what I read the 680's seem like my best bet (I hate bogging)
Thanks Babyuh1

I think that the standard blade length for a 60 is 660mm. The 680s would probably even work with a 90 if you end up changing to one some day.

Just want to mention that the Raptor has several gearing options available. Figure what the optimum engine RPM is and the HS you want and gear for it. If you're getting bogging, a simple gear change may fix that.

I flew 680's, 690's, 700's and 710's of various make and manufacture. For 3D type flying, the 690's (StickBangers) were better but the larger (RotorTech) 710's were great for everything else.

on the 680's those were the Thunder tiger blades...not very good by comparison. They were fine for sport flying but that's it. But I was also flying with an OS 90.

I do have the longer boom ,the engine still a 70 is the headspeed mentioned in the raptor manual? What head speed should I run? I think my 50 runs about 18 -1900.
