Default Which Gryphon BEC - Trex 550 6S FBL AR7200BX

Am looking at Gryphon BECs for 6S Trex 550 FBL with AR7200BX (looking at alternative to Castle BEC Pro as I've had a failure).

So am looking at Gryphon as they look like quality units, and I was very impressed with how they handled a design issue with early units, providing free new replacements to all customers (new LMT versions).

They do three models with increasing cost/output current. I don't fly hard 3D, only sport flying, flips/invert, but don't want to get caught out again with BEC problems whilst not throwing money away.

Polaris 5A constant/10A peak £26.99
Agena 7A constant/10A peak £56.99
Quaser 10A constant/20A peak (dual output cables) £75.99

I know people are flying 550 FBL on the Align ESC which has I believe a 3A constant/5A peak BEC, so technically I suspect any of these would be adequate, but anyone have any firm recommendations.

Using the 10a one for ages now. Faultless so far. Got one on my Furion 6 too which is also faultless.

Cheers

Thanks for reply - can I check which model are you using (Polaris/Agena?)

Just spoke to shop who recommend the Agena (7A constant/15A peak) and said Quaser would be OTT for 550FBL.

I am using:

On my 550 and Furion 6.

It maybe overkill in reality, as you say, the 15a one would be fine.

Thanks.

The Quaser is a bit pricey, so I am torn whether to just throw money at it, rather than risk more problems - the link you show is the regulator, the 15A BEC is the Agena:

Given a lot of people are flying 550FBL on the Align ESC with 3A constant BEC, I would hope 7A/15A would be ample, I'm only sport flying not hard 3D.

Just don't want to toast another AR7200BX ;(

Hi,

Yep, a http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/gryp...0-p-19181.html should be fine.

Cheers

Thanks John,

The Gryphon Polaris on 6S is 5A constant/10A peak, which I wasn't sure about for FBL, price is appealing, but don't want to regret cheaping out now !

Do wish the manufacturers would give actual current ratings for std helicopter setups to make this a lot easier !

I also wondered about using the Gryphon Polaris 5A/10A with a Scorpion Backup guard, as this way I have belt and braces - I have telemetry (hopefully) on the 550 so if I set rx voltage alarm to 5.5v it would alert if backup took over for any reason (as I'd set BEC to 6v, and BUG runs at 5v).

Default Sv: Which Gryphon BEC - Trex 550 6S FBL AR7200BX

Hi

I would prefer the quasar. - i use all the mentioned gryphon bec's, and they all work fine, but for 550-700 i use the quasar.

If i were you, buy the quasar, then you have a good bec, when you will buy new, and maybe larger heli?

Its always a good idea to use some extra backup, ect. A scorpion backup guard ( even though i never needed one, i use one, - you just never know )

Thanks for replies, I have just had reply from Castle USA, they are not interested in problems as my BEC Pro is over 12 months, so want me to pay to post this back to USA for repair (their UK distributor has no technical support), which would cost too much and take too long to be realistic.

I've ordered the Gryphon Quaser, as I figure its not worth buying a cheaper one and then regretting it if I have any further BEC problems, Gryphon seems a quality unit, and they support their products, so hopefully will work well for me.
