Default stock vs stage 1 vs tt?

i'm going to start a 700 conversion this winter and at first i was looking at just getting a stock g270 rc but then started looking at the vx270 rc stage 1 which of course led to looking at the vx300 tt so which leads me to the question, whats the real world differences? comparing the stock and stage 1 270 other than the engine being smoother overall what kind of power increase is there and lastly how first time friendly and what kind of power in the 300 tt? it's going in a helibug conversion for the 700e v3 and will be doing 3d at around 1900-2000 headspeed

One of the differences of stock vs mod is the porting. A stock engine was designed to make power at 8000-9000 RPM's. Increasing flow of the transfers and raising the exhaust port allows the engine to breath better and shifts the powerband up to the proper RPM range.

The 270 and 290 use a stock crankshaft. The 275 and 300 use a 1mm stroker crank that really makes these engines come alive with more torque and better recovery in hard maneuvers. The 300 is a total animal, but I am not sure if the Helibug clutch is up to the task. The 275 may be a better choice. Both are very smooth compared to conventional gas engines.

When you say heli bug clutch does that mean the lynx gasser clutch too? Is that step up problematic?

The heart of a gasser is the drivetrain. The outside diameter of the clutch is critical to efficiently transferring the power. IMHO the Trex clutch diameter is too small, a tighter fitting clutch with larger weights does help such as the Lynx.

The most reliable and trouble free clutch I have found is the Zenoah clutch.

The best designed drivetrain is the Goblin conversion using the Zenoah clutch.

Many pilots have had success sport flying the HB, if pushed you will find it's flaws.

Sounds like I need a better donor. Coming from electric I'm sure I'm going to hammer it more than it likes.

Or you use the century conversion for the T-Rex 700 Nitro. There you have the choice between the RC and the PUH format. Both use the really heavy duty clutch and drive train of century which is much larger than the Align clutch and gearing. I am running this conversion with a 29cc PUH engine and fly 3D with 2050rpm headspeed. Never had any issues with the clutch or drive train. It`s a reliable model for 3D.

regards Dennis
