Default Co-pilot is good plus a lesson learnt!

Rebuild my heli last week, convert from belt to shaft drive plus added co-pilot 2.
I must have done something right and the TREX 500 heli flew beautifully today which is the first flight after rebuild.

Very easy to control, I had no problem with hovering and flying slowly around but today I feel I can take more risk. Just that I was previously thinking of helicommand/gyrobot and the fuss about programming and getting them setupright, copilot flew beautiful with minimum fuss. Moreover it was much cheaper, about 2/3.

About the lesson learnt, I was troubleshooting my tail servo on my working table with my pc monitor right beside. Power up transmitter then heli but the transmitter power drop and I turn off it before the heli and it went crazy at full rpm. Without the main blades, the tail strike my monitor and the stabilizer fin went for my arm and suffer minimum 4 cuts and had to rush to hospital for first aid. So now I remember to disconnect the motor when I am doing any work on the electronics.

Yes I like the co pilot very easy to set up and just works.

I think I have had the same duh moment that you had.

Hope the cuts weren't real bad tho

And the heli survived.

Heli ain too bad. only the flybar was gone including the cf paddles.

Come to think of it, it was a lucky escape and cannot imagine if the blades wss there.

I too had just purchased and installed CP-II in my Century NX. It's the first time I would dare to fly my Heli high and far after I installed the CP-II.

As for being safe while tuning the Heli, I have a regular NiCd power pack (4 cell) just to power the electronic. Whenever I do my tuning and setup, I will disconnect the ESC from the Rx and instead use the NiCd to power the Rx. Then, of course, you do not plug in any power pack to the ESC which means no power to the motor. This will allow me to move the servo with no power to the motor. Hope that helps.

LOL I was setting up pitch on my 500 shut everything off and had
a thought
so I turned on the tx and turned on the heli put the pitch gauge
on and put the throttle lever where I wanted to recheck
and immediately threw the pitch gauge into my forehead just missing my eye

LESSON LEARNED
