Default NX4 - Excessive clutch Grip - anyone else suffering ?

Folks,

My NX4 has been flying well.. Had it out on Monday.. was great..
Started easily and i could carry to the flight line idling nicely and low rpms..

Tuesday - when the othe club again - tried to start - engine kept stopping.. upped the throttle and she runs but clutch gripping..

Took it home - removed the motor and clutch bell - all looks fine - reassembled and seemed better on the bench..

Went to the field - started up - but clutch wants to grip at low rpm whereas it didn't before. Thus the engine keeps stalling and not starting as the clutch is gripping too early..

On the bench the bell turns freely and there appears to be no alignment issues.

The clutch even puts force on the bell when starting with an Align starter - shouldn't at those low rpms

Seems like the clutch may have gone "soft" and flex too easily - is this possible?
Anyone else having similar issues? Any solution ?

Seems i may have to get a new clutch and try?

any help appreciated..

Hey

Sounds like your liner in your bell might be to thin or worn out. If you had a hot start and held the head while the engine ran fast it will burn the liner and thin it out.

This extends the clutch which never returns back to its normal place. Like if you pull a spring apart past it point of no return.

You probably need a new clutch AND a new clutch liner.

You can buy a new bell or change the line which is easy. Scrap the old one out, clean with some alcohol, epoxy or JB weld the new one in.

Wrap two pieces of electric tape around the new clutch and shove it into the bell. The clutch with tape will give you a good gap and help hold the liner till the glue dries. Remove tape put all back together.

If it grabs you can Very Carefully hold the head and rev the engine and burn the new liner in. Careful as if you go to far chances are you will be starting over.

Hope that helps

Yup,, when you put in a new liner make sure the gap is not too large that can cause it to brake,, if the clutch grabs on start up don't worry it will save the clutch

Well the problem was that just the night before i pulled it all out and the clutch appeared to have no issue then the next day the same problems but this time a broken clutch when removing the engine.

I'm assuming the first time i removed it the clutch was weakened/fractured but still just holding and not obviously visible.

The current liner looks ok - but there is a large gap (at least .5mm) - i was mistaken and had a t-rex600 liner not an nx4 one.

compared that and the existing clutch liner is still the same thickness as my t-rex600 one

Have ordered some NX4 clutch liners with a new clutch so i'll have to see how thick the new liner is compared to my existing one..

looks like mine! Couldn't even get 4 trouble free flights!! did not burn 1st gallon of fuel and so far:
Tail slider broke in flight, safe piro auto
Tail grip broke in flight, very minor damage, lg,tail fin
TT gear blew out, boom,supports,/ stretched to 500/ 473 blades/ belt drive
Tail gear pin blew out lg,
Now my clutch broke! I have not even flipped this thing yet, been flying like glass slipper. Everytime I think I'm finished and about to start enjoying,,,,
