Blade MSR Motor

I've just bought a second hand MSR and was having fun flying it around the house when the motor starting acting up. I had to turn the rotors manually to get the motor going again and now its completely dead. Hoping its either the motor or the FETs on the board. Problem is I ordered what I thought was an MSR motor off Ebay but just noticed its an MSR X motor. Are they compatible as they have different part codes?

The mSRX motor is longer and heavier. I don't think the tail motor could keep up with the extra power even if you could make it fit.

I've read elsewhere that the mSRx motor might draw too much current and damage the ESC.

I've put new motors in both my mSRs. I have found that a lot of confusing problems are down to a bad motor. You can somewhat resurrect a worn-out motor by spraying contact cleaner into the top but it will just keep wearing out more and more.

If the tail rotor is behaving oddly, or you get that problem where the motor won't self-start, or you seem to need a lot of rudder trim, or the tail washes out more than it did before, or the hell just doesn't seem to have a lot of power, I think it's often the motor that is at fault. You'll be pleased to see how quiet and powerful it seems with a new motor in it.

I had same problem with my msr. Would have to spin it with my finger to get props going. Just bought new msr motor and now its powerful and smooth as silk. I think you would be wise to just stay with motor that goes with the msr. Ive gotten wrong tail boom and motor and you just end up going back to same parts that go on the msr.

Hello all,

I am new to this forum & hobby but not new to rotor wing aircraft (full time helicopter mechanic) and I think I can shed a little light on this subject.

I had so much fun with my mSR that I burned the motor out in less than a month (multiple +4 back to back sorties will do that). I ordered an mSR x replacement motor by mistake so I thought 'What the heck, I'll give it a go' and swapped motors last night.

The motor cans are the same diameter but the mSR x motor is a bit longer. When installed, it clears the lower edge of the swashplate by roughly 1/8" and does not interfere when doing a control throw/function check.

I have a micro-flight MD500 body on my ship and found that I could lose the nose weight need to balance with the stock motor. She's got a pretty stable hover with only one or two clicks of right tail rotor trim on a fresh battery.

I'm not sure what the max current draw of the mSR x motor is and I haven't really done more that a couple of circuits around my garage to test CG & adjust trim settings.
