Hi All,

I just found that i had inadvertently installed the outer gasket (between insulator and carb) backwards.

If installed this way, it actually looks correct but the small hole doesn't line up fully.

My symptoms were that the motor would start fine but required a higher than normal butterfly opening to idle properly. The motor would also quit easily.

As much as i'm embarrassed to admit my error, i thought i would post it here in case someone else made this simple mistake and is experiencing the same symptoms.

Please dont be embarrassed as I too installed the gasket between the carb and insulator backwards once. What got my attention was that the edge of the teflon was not perfectly flush with the edge of the aluminum insulator. I disassembled the assy. and made the same discovery you did.
There are two ways to make sure this does not happen,one, once assembled, make sure the teflon is perfectly flush around the entire edge of the aluminum insulator. A second way is to pre fit the teflon on the insulator to make sure it is oriented properly. With the carb out of the way, the small radius next to the pulse hole is a good indication of proper orientation. Mark the edge of the teflon gasket and aluminum with a sharpie, then once assembled you can double check to make sure the marks line up. If you all deem it necessary, Ill see about updating the installation insructions to make sure this is not over looked.

Hey Guys, I've been relucantant to use this insulator, because in its std form, it prevents the use of the deflector/spacer (which comes with the Spectra-G kit) without using some sort of sealer. There has been a lot of back and forth on these boards about using this. Personally I won't fly a model in hot weather without one. So to bridge the gap I asked Johan if he could make an optional spacer like the deflector.

So here's what he came up with. The only difference in installation is that you replace the gasket that goes between the insulator and the carburetor with this new larger one.

I don't know when he's going to have these done but if you're interested contact Z-RC about it.

If the aluminum insulator is used is the carburator still spaced the same distance from the cylinder?

Yep , it's the same height ,,, BTW , I use Permatex Aviation form-a-gasket #3 on all the mating inlet surfaces , without paper gaskets; it seals the carby/carbon plate/insulator perfectly....

Please explain why Glass Filled Teflon (GTFE) is not used for the material. Glass filled teflon (GTFE) was developed because Virgin Teflon (TFE) flowed anytime it was sandwiched in compression and was subjected to heat.
The other new more stable plastic that is replacing Teflon is "PEEK tm". It wont cold/hot flow can also be made with glass filled. High temprature properties, insulating properties and hard as wood pecker lips.

Hanson has their own aluminum spacer block. Or Google Z-RC and find retailers.

As for why not telfon for the block itself, machining teflonm based products adds a lot of health issues into the workplace.

I use the ones from Gizmo Motors on my motors and they work great. These fit most all the motors but not sure on the 20.
