I have been lurking the Logo forum for a few weeks now. Putting serious thought into making that commitment. One thing is for sure, the wallet will get a lot lighter hanging around in here.

But I have to admit, it is one bad ass Heli, and I really like this new tail boom!!

Chris

Man I just saw the YouTube video. I was so sorry to see that thing go down. How bad is it, and what gave way?

Yeah, bummer.
Tail gears (rear end) melted the teeth down, not sure why, since there's not really a way to adjust the space between the gears.
Could have been both, either too close or too distant.

I could slap myself for not trying to auto early enough. For some reason I thought I could manage to land without engine cut off.

Of course canopy and boom cover are both trashed. Also blades, boom, landing gear and a few minor parts have made their way to the trash bin.

Got lucky though that frame, mechanics and electronic parts escaped from this incident without damage, so overall costs convinced me to build that big bird up one more time.

I will probably go for a custom canopy and boom cover, too. But first I want to make sure, that the renewed tail gear won't trouble me again.

Don't know about the color scheme, yet. But it will be different, for sure. I never do the same design twice.
;-)

Greetings

Chris

Good attidutde Chris. Man that really sucks. I think I've read at least other time about tail gears melting. I'm Gona try to find out where that was and see if someone has found a solution. I'll be starting my build in a few weeks and would like to address any issues then.

I had a front gear failure to the tune of $1200.

I searched high and low and this failure ' doesn't happen '

Assuming the tail doesn't either.

Still i'd like to know why and how to avoid it.

Replace gears at regular intervals ? what does a worn gear look like ? Etc ..

I can only think of two things that could have caused the gears to melt:

- one of the two bearings jammed (or was defect), got hot and heated up the shaft of the tail rotor
- the driving bevel gear (nr 4524) wandered to the back. This part is just a snap on as far as I recall, there is no other mechanical fixing to prevent axial movement.

Hope you'll find the cause before you get her back in the air

Regards,

Belgo

I finally found some time to take care of all needed repairs after my crash.

So here it is again – of course I couldn't resist to have heli-center-berlin.de make a new body (custom canopy and tail boom cover) for my L800xXt. The time with that last design was just too short.

Painted in a beautyful Black with original "rosso scuderia" Red this time.

Greetings

Chris

That looks absolutely AWSOME. That color is way better then the stock yellow. I got mine yesterday and the quality is great. Better than my stock canopy from mikado.

Have you since come up with a better idea of what may have caused the gears to melt and send it down?

If so, have you done anything different on the rebuild to prevent it from happening again?

I'm very interested as I'm only days away from starting my build also.

Well, no I haven't really figured out, why gears have melted.
Perhaps gearplay has changed, without being noticed, maybe something small got stuck in between, maybe the gears have been a little worn out after almost two years without changing.

I really will not know for sure.

Since I have now changed most of the parts and bearings on the rear half of the heli, I feel a little more comfortable now, that lack in material shouldn't be the cause for a similar failure, in the near future at least.

But IF it does happen again, I will get whatever-secret-service-needed involved to clear that case.

Greetings

Christian

ps: connecting the tail control rod to the tail servo BEFORE attaching the boom cover to the main frames makes life a lot easier, I learned. ;-)

Are there any tricks to installing the cover and tail assemblies? The direction are a little less than clear to me for some reason.

What sequence was used? I believe I'm starting at the Heli and moving back to the tail. It seems the servo needs to be installed after the boom is connected to the frame.

It does look tricky....

Hi, nothing really special about the boom attachment, only 'trick' would be as mentioned above in post #36.

And yes, servo is installed in the very end.

Greetings

Chris

Thanks. I'm always just a bit over cautious about anything to do with tail assemies. That, and this is my first logo build seems pretty straight forward so far.
