Default Cell1: 0V; Cell2: 7,6V, Cells3 to 6: 3,8V

Hi all,

I have one battery that has serious balance wire issues: I connect it to a lipo checker and it shows

Cell1: 0V
Cell2: 7,6V
Cell3: 3,8V
Cell4: 3,8V
Cell5: 3,8V
Cell6: 3,8V

When I wanted to unplug it I noticed that when I move the battery suddenly the voltage of cell 1 and 2 would change back to normal:
Cell1: 3,8V
Cell2: 3,8V
Cells 3-6 unchanged at : 3,8V

It seems like the voltages are changing when I move the balance wire. Depending on the position it looks like all the voltage of cell one is shown together with the voltage of cell two.

Overal the battery seems to be fine, it has around 130 cycles, it is not puffy at all (just sports flying on a 6s T-Rex450, never pulling more than 35 A; never ever below 3,5V during flights, never below 20%)

It is a Turnigy Nanotech 6s 1300 mah 25c

Any ideas what is happening with the battery and what I could do?

Sounds like the balance wire between cell 1 and 2 has come loose and is moving around. If you are used to soldering you can open it up and resolder it. Exercise extreme precaution since lipos can be dangerous and can catch fire if shorted.

I wouldn't use this lipo until it's fixed.

It's just a bad connection or broken wire on cell #1 of the balance plug so that the cell checker is reading the combined voltage of cells 1 and 2 and reporting as if this combined voltage was from cell 2 alone. This is a common issue because balance wires are quite fragile.

There is no reason to think that the battery itself has any issues. The problem is likely to show itself when you try to charge it, so you should get it sorted.

This is how I would fix that issue.
