OK there comes the question. Why do we upgrade to CNC parts if the plastic one from MSH works just fine and it's aligned quite well...? Some home made coversion could cost you a lot if you crash because of it.... I would be aware of some home made conversions...

...imagine to have two blade CNC grips of a 1 mm longer or not aligned ... you would have some serious vibration problems...

I think it's because the shoddy plastic Align has used in the past, coupled with the need to run crazy headspeeds on Align helis, and the fact that a "true" heli pilot needs metal to keep their heli together. It's the bling, baby.

Well, far be it from me being considered a "true heli pilot" I got the tail box for 1 reason.
Weight. Running 7S A123, and a mini tail servo, having the extra weight all the way out on the tail helps balance the heli. |

Finally had a chance to fly it this weekend.
Works just as well as the stock. No issues whatsoever. Also tried my new tail servo, the Outrage branded version of the MKS 8910. By far the best setup I have had on the Protos tail. |

Hi guys,
From looking at your pictures, I noticed that the new metal case comes with a CNC "C" and a metal arm that connects to the tail pushrod. Well, I just received mine that I ordered from Fast Lad and it did not have any of those. Its only the CNC case and 2 bearings. Is this normal? Or maybe they forgot to add it to the box for me? Thanks, G

Cool. Thanks. So, the price that I paid is only for the CNC case, right? How much is the case with the "C" hub?
Thanks, G

Great support from IH.
I already received 2 spacers for guide pulley. They are my primary source of Protos parts

Does the C clamp pivot smoothly through the U bracket? On the plastic tail I find it binds here, and I have to keep the screw quite loose.

Use a longer screw, and put a nylock nut on the other side so you can adjust the tension and still have security.

I just ran into a problem with my stock tail set up. The collar that goes through the tail guide pulley bearing had dug into the plastic in the right hand side of my tail case (looking from behind at the tail). It became off center due to the pressure of the belt and was binding the bearing. It actually wore a flat spot in my tail guide pulley all the way down to the bearing race.
I love my protos but this seems like an issue. I'm pretty anal about my builds but maybe I missed something here. However, IMO there needs to be a metal standoff or washer incorporated into the plastic tail case design to support the high stress on the collar. Anyway this is why I'm looking at this cnc tail upgrade.

You must did something wrong.
My Protos is from the first batch (over a year old) and I never had an issue like that. I went trough all 3 versions of tail box. Could your be defective or something? Wesp

If no one else is having this issue I guess it could be something I've overlooked. I'm waiting on another idler pully and I'll rebuild the tail paying special attention to this area.
