Should i get a NX4
I currently have lipo helis 130x, Goblin 630, Align 500 DFC, MCPX)
Wanted to look into a Nitro just for some fun and something new to build. I've had nitro cars before and they was ALWAYS a pain in the bum to get running, glow plugs , stalling and generally a right mess. Whats a nitro heli like is it the same as a car with consistant maintainance? And loads of equitment to get it started? Only thing putting me off really....

I never had really good luck with nitro cars. Electrics always seemed better on cars. As far as helis go mine always fires right up. Cant go wrong with OS engines IMHO. I actually prefer nitro for a heli. Once you get the engine dialed in you are good to go.

Go for it!!!
Whole different world. Not even comparison to cars. Agree, cars are a pain, engines run at the peak and replacing parts is common. I’ve heard if the engines last 1-2 years they are good. I’ve had some nitro cars and constant tweaking of the engine, replacing glow plugs, trying to keep it idling, etc. My OS 90 I run in my current T-Rex 700 is almost 6.5 yrs old (was in a Raptor 90 first), runs awesome and puts out plenty of power. Run OS 8 plugs and I have probably gone through 4-5 plugs total in 6.5 yrs (we used to run the K&B idle bar longs because we really couldn’t afford OS 8 back in the airplane days). I generally change them once per year ....just to change them. Engine has never been taken apart (other than looking in backplate or for crankshaft locking tool). Just break in and run it just a tad richer and you will be just fine. Rarely have a flame out due to plug… most of mine are from having too much fun and running out of fuel! My OS 50 I have in the T-Rex 600 is about 4 yrs old, I believe, and again, 2-3 plugs, never opened. I do run them dry at the end of the day. Runs great, plenty of 3D power. The older Thundertiger 37 I used to run in my nexus ran awesome…I will say (many disagree) was one of the best running engines for me. These engines you don’t run at peak peak power (you can but then will run into more issues- replacement parts, etc.) and they run very well, idle very well. Since you have RC car experience, tuning should be eaiser for you…just don’t lean it to much. Run OS #8 plugs and either 30 or 15% fuel. I have ran omega 10% (pink stuff), 15% synthetic (green) and now ran Coolpower 30/30 for the past 7 years. Perfect match, no BS. Starting is much easier, no belts or boxes. Get a decent starting shaft like this or just buy a combo like align makes. Having a good starter is worth every penny. These are made to turn over a 90 or 105 so turning over a 37 is nothing. http://www.centuryheli.com/products/...27M&pageid=415 http://helidirect.com/align-yellow-s...01-p-13825.hdx I have a hybrid version of that using a 4 cell 4000 mah lipo pack. For fuel system we have tried everything and simple is best. This is what I use now… electric pump (do yourself a favor and keep an extra handy or a handcrank as backup) and a 2S 800 mah lipo. Aluminum cut and bent. Simple easy. https://www.helifreak.com/attachment...9&d=1352866008 Go for it… for the NX4 just get the OS and the muffler…use coolpower 30/30 (or such), OS #8 plug and after a bit of break in set the main needle to 1.25 to 1 turn out… done…fly.

Thx, I guess I am a little biased as I really enjoy nitro and find it a pain to charge and maintain batteries.
Long live Nitro!!! tauseef

My kit also was missing the counter sunk 10mm bolt and fuel line. No biggie just irritating. Not finished with the build yet, but I think I like it!

That's odd, my kit had all the screws and a couple of extra. It didn't have the ball for the throttle.

1helimech,
The swash rods (servos -> swash) can be longer or shorter than the manual's specs depending on what kind of servo you are using. Every single servo manufacturer has a different location for the output spline on the servo. For a rule of thumb, the best way to "center" the swash is to move the collective up and give full forward elevator. Make sure the post coming off of the swash is not hitting the Anti- Rotation piece. Then move collective down and give back elevator. Once again, assure that the post is not hitting the bottom of the Anti- Rotation part. Then adjust your swash-> blade grip linkages to achieve your desired pitch. Hope this helps,
