He shaved it down most likely the only pyro motor that has a 5mm shaft as standard is the Mini Pyro 400 motor.

Kontronik used 5mm shafts in Pyro 600 motors in the past (I had a 600-12 with a 5mm shaft in my Logo 500), when you have a 5mm version and send it to Kontronik they replace it with a 6mm shaft unfortunately.

This is Mikado's way of making sure you only use their sponsored motor unfortunately. More and more people are getting away from 5 mm shafts, i just can't understand why they insist on 5 mm unless they don't want people to have other options. For me that was the only reason i am not trying this heli out. I just like to have the option of selecting my motor rather than being dictated

No doubt Mikado has a a nice little deal going on with Edge blades and Scorpion. I wonder if they weren't tied up would they have made it a little bigger?

I hope Mikado dont start going down the Align route and dictating our setups for us,i chose to go back to Mikado airframes for their flexibility, ive already been put off buying a 550SX because of the lack of motors for it and this could put me off a 480,i want to fit what motor i want and its certainly not a Scorpion

I too hate the 'dictated' setups because I know my helis fly great with other setups. I dislike how Mikado has made the Logos less like Lego in that many of the parts are no longer compatible or have been discontinued.

Mikado seems to be the Apple iPhone/iPad of the Heli world.
Locked into their way or no way, very restrictive.
On the other hand, it simply works well and there are few complaints of quality or performance.

Mikado's recommended setup for the Logo XXtreme 480 is as follows:

FBL: Mini VBar Blueline Express
Motor: Scorpion HK4015-1070
ESC: YGE 90 LV with Power BEC
Cyclic Servos: Savox Digital Servo SH-1250MG Midi Size
Tail Servo: Savox Digital Servo SH-1290MG

No thanks...

I guess I can just turn down / taper the Kontronik Pyro 6mm shaft to 5mm...

...and go with my desired setup from the first post.

how easy to taper the shaft? I asked Kontronik and they were heavily against making the shaft 5 mm, you probable can get away with scorpion as the internal shaft diameter is probably 8 mm or so but not pyro motor, it is 6 mm all the way through.

What's the difference if you turn down an 8mm shaft or a 6mm shaft? Either way, the weakest part of the shaft is going to be the smaller diameter portion. Am I missing something?

yes you are, if you have a small diameter shaft like 6 mm all the way through it is so easy to damage the internal bearings or at least reduce their life significantly, that is the reason that Kontronik does not advise on the use of 5 mm in their motors. you have to be careful here. Scorpion get away by using larger inside shaft and bigger bearings so okay with scorpion and not okay with Kontronik.

No one is going to be able to answer that really, no one has seen it. There looks like there might be room in the tray to fit a couple of 6S batteries, stacked or one in front of the other.

Is there enough 'meat' on the pinion to drill it out to 6mm without jeopardising strength? Would be easier than removing and turning down a motor shaft

I'm pretty much decided on turning down the stock Kontronik Pyro 6mm shaft, so I'd appreciate any input, clarification and direction. Thanks in advance.

...and just for reference, here are the specs of the "Super Combo":

Where do you plan on getting your 18T mod .7 herringbone pinion to fit on the Kontronik Pyro 600-11 motor shaft?

Let me know. Thanks!
