So this HB800, or the tarot XYZ, or the copterx 3X1000?

This hobbymate FBL seems to be a clone of beastx v1, which seems outrageous. I wonder if
it is sanctioned by microbeastx itself to create a lower cost alternative to compete with the new
crop of cheap FBL controllers like tarot, copterX, ...etc. If it is an outright stealing of IP, I would
expect you can get a HB800 and update it to beastX v2.0 firmware and beyond. The fact that
you'll turn it to a brick if you try to update indicates that they've actively changed something to
make it different. Without source code of the original beastx it'll not be an easy task. Besides,
why would they deliberately limit the upgrade path of this FBL unless it is in cooperation with beastx?

Just my conspiracy theory :-)

"I also want clarify a couple of things.

1. the HB800 currently does not support satellites
2. The HB800 currently does not support sbus.

these features will be coming later when we update the firmware ."

It sounds like they will update the firmware, and right now there is not futaba/spektrum support.

I think with these clone units they are already making them for so cheap they would rather just sell a new one instead of making firmware updates. I doubt microbeast is working with them to make a cheaper unit. My conspiracy theory is that the BeastX I have says made in Germany but where is the spektrum/beastx unit made? Probably China so they got their hands on some code and made this unit.

I've never seen a AR7200BX, but I think they are made in china, so may be the code
could be lifted.

But I doubt the firmware of the AR7200BX is from v1.0 instead of the latest version, further more
I suspect it contains a satellite inside rather than a full receiver. There is no point in converting
the digital channel data into a PPM signal and then reconvert it back to a digital value if I were
to integrate a receiver with a gyro.

I agree with you in that I doubt they are actively working on the firmware. If they did a clean room
implementation, why would they use v1.0 as target instead of v2.0 or v3.0? I some how they
got a copy of v1.0 firmware, without the source code it wouldn't be easy to hack in satellite support.

At least someone went some length to do different PCB - not just steal whole lot and package it in cheap plastic case. LOL :p

I cannot believe that...a Beastx similarity..., and dirt cheap. I will get one eventually when I get a chance. Beastx is good but too expensive. A good clone is better.

Last edited by MTDV; 07-06-2012 at 10:25 AM.. Reason: Actually not a clone - it's similar.

If you are referring to tail pre comp. This firmware version does not do tail pre comp. The next firmware version will support.
