Default Bought a used heli w FBL, now what?

Hey guys, this might sound like an odd question but I'd like to hear what you all would do.

So I bought a used trex 500 dfc w spek RX and a microbeast. I know the heli is all setup from the previous owner on his 9503 and I now want to bind it up to my dx9. Do I simply bind the RX and go through the beast setup or do I need to start with leveling the swash, etc. I would think since it's spek to spek the servo travel etc should be the same so linkages should be right. If I was moving to a different radio mfg would I need to redo all the linkages and level the swash?

I plan to check all the links and bolts etc for tightness and wear. Just not sure if I need to tear it down or just BNF.

Also can I just copy a model from say my 130x and start from there or does the trex 500 come with a set of starting points in the manual? I don't have the manual.

Thanks!

Here's a link to the manual;

I would do a complete setup.

I too vote for a complete setup. That's the only way you're going to learn it, and get it right.

Whenever I buy a used heli besides setup, I also check bearings. Make sure all are free and not notchy. I'll also oil or grease everything.

I do a quick setup check after any major maintenance... When I get a used heli it gets treated like a new kit. Torn down, checked and re-built. Of course a new setup is completed as well.

All depends on your skill level and confidence with setups. If you're a noob and don't have any (or limited) building experience, trying to do a complete tear down and setup could very well do more harm than good especially when you throw a BeastX in the mix, and you might get frustrated and end up selling it to some other poor schmuck (who might also assume the heli is set up properly).

If that's the case, then I'd invest in a case of beer and call up the closest HF member or local club member and get together with them for a lesson in setup procedures.

Regardless of skill level, though, I'd always opt for a complete teardown and setup when buying a used heli, unless you know the previous owner and know how they fly, have seen the heli fly, and you trust that they know what they're doing.

If you're confident that you know what you're doing, go the *complete* tear down and setup route. That way you'll be able to inspect every single part for wear/tear or damage. Might even throw a few blinged out upgrades on it while you're at it...

Definitely full setup.
Bench function the helicopter before you spool it up!

The endpoints / travel of each channel are likely different. Throttle could be different or even reversed? (Full throttle with HOLD).

Be careful and reprogram the setup.

Re-do everything starting with a new model. If you haven't set up FBL's find someone who has................. or take it slowly and READ a lot. Never ever be in a hurry with these things.

I bought a used bird from a person whom I've had seen his setups in-flight. Went into it just for assurance, the mechanical was ok. But the electronics were a horror story.

Pack your own chute.

I would do a complete re-setup also.

Ask questions-there are many here to help you. The BeastX section of this forum is great, and you will find a great deal of help with the Trex here also.

Take it slow and enjoy the process.

Unless I know the person I bought the heli from and I know they do a good job setting up, I will strip down the whole heli to make sure it's done to my standards. Plus you can see if
