Default Preferred Muffler?

Hi guys.. I'm debating going nitro... If i do the N5C is the only choice right(don't tempt me on the N7.. I'm on a budget!) so if I were to put an OS55 in it what would be the muffler of choice? I read good stuff on several.. OS power boost, funtech, hatori... What's the best one for power? Pros, cons... I'm totally new to the nitro scene & need some clarification on stuff to help make the choice to go nitro or continue w electric.. Thanks in advance guys!

I'm using the Hatori and like it so far ... I use the matched Hatori for the OS105 on my N7 as well.

It's a Pepsi / Coke kind of thing ... just make sure whichever you get, that it's matched to your motor model.

Funtech was making the powerboost pipes, probably still are. Eg, the V1 powerboost was just a black coated A395.

Either the hatori or the B320 are really nice pipes, although from what I've seen it'll probably be easier to find the hatori pipes right now.

I have flown both powerboost and hatori. I like the hatori sab-55 best. I see that you are in Augusta Ga. I fly the n5c and n7, if you need any help with your build or nitro setup, just let me know I will be glad to help you. The n5c is the perfect first nitro btw.

I lean'n toward the nitro for sure... Synergy in particular. I really wish I had done the E5 instead of my 550PRO DFC.. Which I love... Very pleased with it, but the Synergy models are good look'n machines. The Align had almost everything I needed in the kit and was a little cheaper.. Anyway.. Time to start gathering for the next machine.. N5C or E7SE... Gonna be a long time to get it all together.. But I need to pick one to know what I'm doin... Lol.. Time & $!

I started out on electric and was all about electrics, I even became an electrician lol but man I tell you what nitro is the way to go. I still love my e5 but with limited time and budget. you pay as you go. Big electrics are awesome but I hated charging big packs, taking a charging station and generator every time I go fly and it would take all day to get 4 to 5 flights in. With the n5c I can get up to 8 flights in less than an hour like wamb bamb thank you synergy!!

Default OS-55 & PowerBoostII...

not the PowerBoost"1".
I've been running the OS55 since they came out late 2010 and have had 3 different pipes.
Audacity ProMuffler 2,
OS PowerBoost 1 (suck)
OS Power Boost 2 - awesome.

the first muffler was a left-over...very quiet & pleasant sounding pipe, makes good power but is leaving some on the table - but at $75 at the time and laying in a box....

When the PowerBoost 1 came out, I immediately acquired only to find it liked to load-up with oil...so when you picked up heli atfer flight it would dump hot oil out the back.

The PowerBoost 2 is obviously a different design, similar note to the "1" but no bad habits & makes great power

Another Funtech B323 user here and I've been quite happy with it. Couldn't beat the price from RC Japan.

Sab-55 for me is the #1, I have used the PB2(2nd favorite) the outrage(#3) and CYMP5(#4). Hatori seemed to make more power and the kicker for me was the ease of tuning.

SAB-1 is just bigger than SAB-55. Richard at Hatori will still recommend the SAB-55 for it, though. The SAB-1 is better for YS 60sr, if you were to decide you want more torque at some point.

Hey guys.. Just finishing up the build... Putting on the pipe today & gonna program the iKon... Had a thought as I was about to install the pipe.. Gasket or RTV... Should I or just bolt her on?

Gaskets work pretty well, although going that route a metal one is preferred. Reusable and they seal fairly well.

RTV works quite well too, although you might want to try it a couple times if you haven't before in order to learn the film thickness needed (it's very little, we're talking about a few tenths of a mm). The last thing you need is excess RTV pressing out into the interior of header only to get sucked into the engine.

You can just bolt a pipe on, although you'll need to sit down with some engineer's blue and match the surfaces precisely.

If the pipe just came with some fiber gaskets, those will work fine for now. Beware they almost always fall apart on removal after sitting for a while from degradation and need to be scraped clean off (hence the preference for soft metal gaskets and RTV).

Default Many different ways to mount and seal

Most people have their own preferences on this subject and there are many different methods that work. I have used RTV, home made gaskets, and metal to metal but, I am a firm believer in plain old epoxy. I have really good luck just spreading a thin amount on the pipe and mounting it up. I have used just about everything and this method is just easy and works very well.
