Unhappy Can't get new 3G to work - help!

I have just finished installing a 3G FBL System into a new 700LE build, but unfortunately can not get the system to work!

The cyclic servos do not work at all when plugged into the control unit. I have followed the set up exactly as per the instructions and Bert Kammerers set up video.

Receiver Spectrum AR7100R
Cyclic Servos DS610s
Rudder Servo DS650

Running direct on 2S lipo

I have checked, and there is power to the servo from the control unit (7.5v). The servos do not even buzz, which is very unusual for DS610s!. I have also checked that the sensor is correctly plugged into the control unit.

I have confirmed that the servos are all working (all brand new in the 700LE kit) by plugging directly into the rx.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatfully received!

Dave

Are there any lit LEDs on the control box?

If so, is your TX to RX bound properly? Plug one of the servo directly into your receiver and see if it responds.

Also try powering up with the SET button pressed, and see if it goes into programming mode.

The TX and RX are properly bound - when the servos are plugged directly into the receiver, bypassing the 3G control box, they work fine.

I have tried powering up the heli with the SET button pressed, the correct LED sequence (as per Bert's video) flashes.

Every thing seeming to be working properly, apart from the cyclic servos!

There is a green led on the control unit when the heli is switched on.

servo plug polarity?

the signal wire should be near the side with the label.

Can you post a photo of your setup?

The servo polarity (with the signal near the label) is correct as you have stated. I will take a photo ASAP - just need to put it back together again, took everything apart to double check all the wiring.

Thank you very much for your help!

Photo above - left the receiver / control unit off to better show how it has been plugged in.

I see you are using the longer cable to the sensor. try the shorter one. on mine, the longer one gives me a constant red blink and the servos don't react to tx inputs.

I run the longer sensor cable on both my 500 and 600, no problems there.

Are you running servo extension cables? Can you plug the servos directly into the control box and see if that works?

Also I just checked my setup. If the receiver isn't getting any signals from the transmitter (TX is off or not bounded), the FBL control box LED will not lit up. Does any LED lit up on yours?

The 7100R is an interesting receiver in that it outputs 7.4V (unregulated) on the cyclic servos, but regulates the rudder at 5.2V. Now the 3g supports a dual power bus for the cyclic and rudder servos. So in theory, this should work fine with the 2 outputs from the 7100R.

Note that the 3g must source current from 2 connectors to the RX since it has 2 power buses internally. So both the rudder channel and the aileron channel must be connected to fully power up the 3g.

I couldn't help but notice your rudder channel is not connected to your 7100R. I would venture to guess this why the 3g isn't initializing completely.

Shaun

Glad you posted some more info on this - does seem strange.

Have you got another receiver to try?

We are not running any servo extension cables, the servos are plugged directly into the control box.

When the TX and RX are switched on, the green LED lights up. The rudder servo works fine, it is only the cyclic servos that do not work!

I am beginning to think that there must be a fault with the control unit

Thank yo all for your input - any other ideas are MOST welcome - decent weather is forcast for the weekend (for a change) and my son is chomping at the bit to try his new FBL LE!!

Hi Malc,

Shaun has tried ithe unit on his 600 (i.e. plugged it into the 600 receiver -AR7100, and servos) with exactly the same results.

We have tried both the long and the short cables between the sensor and the control unit - no difference!

The wierd thing is, as i stated earlier, there is power on the three cyclic servo output points on the control unit

Bummer... bound to happen to someone. Glad its up and running! I've read about bum Mikado units too.. so not necessarily a bad thing yet for the Align 3G line. Unless it starts happening "too frequently"
