Default Smith Miniplane

Raza,

congrats on the building.

That's a sweet looking SIG Smith Miniplane (I have the kit).

And like most SIG kits I think it'll be a blast to build.

Cheers
Erik

I have a couple of foamy warplanes that I fly in between heli flights. A bunch of us at the field put on streamers and fly combat with them, it makes for an exciting time when you get 5 or more up there trying to cut each other up.

I agree raza if you built it from scratch I'm sure it would make it more fun, just because I'd the fact you built it. My plane came as an ARF so it took a few hours to get together, nothing big. But I did build my heli from a bag of parts so maybe that is part of the nonstop rush when flying them.

Ah cool thanks for identifying it. I could hardly remember it's been almost 20 years since I built that. Sig kits are very high quality and a blast for sure (if you're into that sort of stuff) I'm amazed they still make that kit after all this time.

Thanks a lot!
It looks really cool. How does it fly in 5-15 mph winds? I am pretty sure I'll be getting one after I do some reading.
How is crashing it?

It flies nice in maybe 5mph winds, but it's so light I'm afraid it might get away from you if you let it get too far downwind on a windy day.

I don't think planes are boring in any way. I love both helis and planes, although I only have an mSR. Hovering a plane is freaking kick ass! It's harder than hovering a heli, but just like anything else, it's easy with practice. I definately prefer planes to helis. I do plan on getting a heli soon. I'm just waiting for something super nice to come out.

If you only have a mSR then I would expect you to prefer planes over helis, get a CP and you will see what is so awesome about helis

thing to try if you think you have mastered planks...
1. rolling circles
2. 4 point slow roll
3. rolling harriers

thats the 3 hardest things i can think of to do with a plank

I used to have a B400. Unless you've been flying helis for a while and have some skills, helis are just boring. I also don't think it helps that I started helis so late; I'm 29. I wish I was introduced as a young boy so I could be proficient now.

As bigger and better things come out in the heli scene, I'll eventually get another CP heli.

+1. I can do them, I just haven't perfected them. My favorite moves are tumbles and blenders

If you don't have one yet get a sim. I started last year at 29 and because of the sim I learned fairly quickly. I do find that flying a plane is more like putting on your own personal airshow while flying helis is more like trying to drive drunk and not get caught. I enjoy both but for different reasons. Helis and planes that is, not driving drunk.

Planks are great for chillaxin... can't believe I didn't toss a blender into this mix. KE spins are fun too.

I started at 29 too. Two years into it and I can fly in all orientations, inverted and all, which makes it a blast. So it's definitely not too late. I picked up my first plane the other day. Micro Sukhoi xp. it's tiny and quick so you have to be alert like helis but the crashes are so forgiving with foam

Umad?

Picture a cloudy sky with a little yellow plane attempting to hover for 6 minutes. :-)

I was talking with Matt Botos (pro r/c heli pilot) and he told me he enjoys flying motor-powered sailplanes!

So, for the folks that think airplanes aren't cool, I can understand that generally speaking, yes, they are certainly easier to fly than heli's but I enjoy them and . . . that's really all that matters.

I just got a Telink SU-29 but haven't built it yet - here's the airplane designer doing his thing with it: LINK

I also enjoy flying a powered Glider. I started with a Radian and am about to buy a Radian Pro. (The Pro has ailerons). The Radian is available on Phoenix and I scaled it up to 144% for more realism.
