Thanks
Thanks for some great videos helping out this beginner to build his first Heli!
I am considering getting a Trex 550e later and sadly Finless does not seem to have made a video series for this. I will miss his company in the building ;-) Could the 500 series easily be used for guidance of a 550 build? Thanks! |

In the sense that all these helicopters are basically the same, yeah... but it has some slight differences/updates in the tail servo mounting. Once you understand the principles, all you will need is the manual.

Do you need to put CA glue in all areas where you screw into plastic? Such as when you screw the receiver/battery trays together?

This is awesome work! Many many thanks to anyone involved in making these build videos!
The 500E was my first build and I definitely wouldn't have been able to complete it without these videos, at least not totally by myself! Thanks again and greetings from Germany |

Pulled the trigger on one of these Wednesday morning - should be here Friday. The videos are now my default lunchtime entertainment...
Oh, and Bob using a 9303 - priceless

OK, put the videos up in the basement home theater last night - Bob on a 60" flat screen is impressive.
Was doing a presentation for OPS this morning in a meeting - accidentally "sent" Bob's initial flight video from Arbor to the video system. Bob on a 8'x14' video wall is pretty scary.... USPS hasn't delivered my 500E yet.. Update - USPS DID deliver it on Friday - I just forgot how long it takes anything sent through the mail to wind it's way through the LAX mail system

500 Heli pitch problem
Hi, hopefully someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Helped a friend today setup his FB 500 heli, a bit of Hobbyking and a bit of Tarot. I helped him centre his servos, then levelled his swash using a swash plate tool. Then levelled the washout arms and the top arms and got the pitch set to 0Deg.
Here is my issue, If I go full pitch, the pitch on the blade is off the scale, and I mean off the scale by almost 8 to 10 deg... I've never seen this happen before. I had to lower the pitch value in the swash menu to 20% (Normally 50 or 60%). When I try to set -3Deg in normal mode throttle closed I have to set the value of the pitch curve to 56!! (Normally 30) Any help will be much appreciated!!! |

When you have to start reducing numbers that low, it's a sign your servo arms are too long. On the 500, the swash links don't go straight up and down, they make a sort of inverted teepee shape. Also it sounds like your FBL controller isn't calibrated for the proper center. When you centered the servos, did you do it with the radio straight up or with the controller or what?

FINALLY maidened the 500E on Saturday!
A few tweaks of trim and she flies nice (had a buddy of mine do the maiden honors). Will probably head to the Carson field in a week or so.

I just ordered a 500E kit after almost 5 years absence from Heli's
I had the original 500 that I built with the help of Bob's videos back in 2008. So glad I kept all Bob's 500 build videos on a usb stick as after 5 years I have pretty much forgotten how to build one of these things. If my second 500 builds and flies as well as my first (long since sold) I will be very happy. Are there any changes to the 500E from the original that I should look out for ? Cheers. Minskie |

Just finished my 500cf build. No problems thanks to finless bobs build vids. Awesome! Thanks so much for making what would have been a very difficult build smooth as a babies bottom!
