Need help with 4in1 failure w/ heading lock gyro

So I installed a heading lock gyro in my hbfp and at first power up, it worked perfect. Then without warning, the thing went full power, missed me, flew across my work shop and crashed in the corner. Now the red/green led just flashes back and forth and the main and tail rotor don't turn.. I have noticed in the past the green led turning red while running the heli. What does the red led mean? is it possible that there was a pre-existing condition that finally went all out? (or did I screw it up)
