X5 12S
Has anyone use two 4000 packs to make it 12S on an X5?
Just wondering the weight and COG issues and Formula canopy fitment. Thinking of using KDE 600XF-530 motor. |

I'm using one Glacier 4000mah pack and there is no more room for other pack.

With that setup you can forget about any downward elevator input. LOL. 2650s don't even come close to fitting in a formula canopy. I am about to get some 1800mah goblin 380 batteries. Besides. 2x4000mah lipos would be way way way too much weight for an x5.

I have the exact same motor with a edge 80hv. I am currently flying a nose heavy x5 with no canopy and 2x turnigy nanotech 6s 2650mah 35c lipos. Most would recommend 2200 mah 6s. I think I will use 1800 mah turnigy lipos because I want to go crazy fast and light:http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...arehouse_.html
Oh and the 1800 mah lipos should fit with the battery fence while some 2200 mah lipos may not work. |

Yeah I thought that 2650's would be too heavy. Two 4000's is basically a lightweight 700 loadout...it might be a little heavy for the tiny X5.
2200's are perfect IMHO but don't expect more flight times over a 4000 6S setup. You gain a bit of efficiency and add 400 mah but likely will use a bigger motor so expect similar times if you don't use any more of the available power...if you do well, you know what to expect. I know it's a terribly overused phrase on HF though I feel I do beat on my X5 decently hard and there is certainly plenty of power with good lipos!

Yeah, I use two 4000s in my Raptor E700.
It would certainly be an "interesting" challenge to try it on the X5.

Having that much weight on an x5 may actually cause other unforeseen issues.
Integrity Handywork's gaui x5 stretch was stripping even the black gears all over the place on 12s, even on 550mm blades, and I think it has a ton to do with the fact that it was nearly 3600g. That is 700 grams more than my x5 with 2650 packs. Motors like the scorpion 4035 and 600xf 530 have more than enough torque to strip the black gear as strong as it is, and having a heli that weighs 700-900g, and about 30 percent more than it is supposed to can force the motor to put out more power than the heli can handle. The amount of inertia the rotor blades need to overcome on a hard stop may be too much for certain parts of the drive train when the heli is too heavy for what it is. |

I fly two 2200
I have tried two 2600 and could feel teh weight. But it flew for a minute extra. I should have given it longer, i got rid of teh batteries. I get 4.5 minutes on 2200s, which is a long time for how hard the heli flies on 12s. |

Is anyone running 12s and using the Formula canopy?
And if so, what batteries are you using? I really plan on this when my 6s packs eventually die but from what I have been reading most are using the FES canopy.

I'm using the fusuno formula canopy. They make one specific for the 12s.

I saw those but I really like the stock yellow canopy. Not sure if anyone is using the stock canopy.

You need to remove the battery fence with the formula cano...i.e. big issues when you crash.
You can of course remove it and make up a metal battery plate and tape it to the lipos but it will chew up the motor a bit as it winds down once the lipos jam into it in a crash. There is of course the larger custom cano like bgymr is using. It's a bit of a performance over looks mod IMHO. I'm happy with the FES anyway as it's easier to put on/take off and has better cooling too (plus it's cheaper).

I am going to get some 1800mah lipos and see if they fit in the stock fes canopy. I like it, but then again, if it doesn't it's cool. I don't fly with a canopy 99% of the time anyway. There is a threaded hole in front of the motor mount. Could it be possible to use a really thick cf plate and make a battery fence that way?

I have two 1350 from my X3, I will see if I can get any flight times with those.

I think someone did make up a plate like that. It was a small CF plate sitting in front of the motor.
I think it needs something as having lipos jam into the motor even if protected, might damage the motor shaft, bearings etc if it's doing 20,000 rpm. Good 1800's might be really snappy. Light and powerful but maybe only 2m45s flight times. It sounds bad but this is just over what I get with my X3 and it's always a great 2m40s.

I've flown 1800s. They fly great. Really snappy, but the batteries come down on fire. 2200s are awesome. I think bigger could work as well depending on your flight style.
I love the 1800s. They were turnigys. If you fly them at 1850 it was really nice for light 3d. It'a great experience. |
