Is the Castle software able to record the voltage ripple?

You can be assured there are absolutely no viruses/trojans/or other security issues on the ESC Failure spreadsheet. I, too work in computers. I'm a senior network and security engineer and work on contract for one of the largest auto makers in the world. About 75 percent of all Internet traffic at any time of the day will go through circuits owned my employer. While that doesn't mean much, I can only assure you. If you or anyone find problems with the spreadsheet, please, please let me know.

With that in mind, attached is the latest spreadsheet.

I was able to take the time to check on whether or not a motors efficiency affects the motors KV. It does not. KV is measured in an unloaded condition, and efficiency affects how a motor reacts under loads.

If castle has problems with low rpm then their software shouldn't allow it.
I am convinced that if castle changed their suggestions on the governor setup screen we would see a lot less of these burning up. Why do they keep driving people to over-geared setups? I remember when I got my first castle ICE 50 on my 450. Based on the castle link suggestions I ended up buying something like a 17 tooth pinion. It was silly. I think I ended up running 15T on a 6s setup. You got to really pay attention to your power out % to see if you are geared right. It should stay 80-100% range most of the flight.

1500 RPM is much to low for your gearing setup. While the current is one factor in the temperature, the switching inefficiencies will also heat up your ESC pretty quickly, especially at certain lower throttle settings.

Wow that's what I'm running in my goblin. What was the esc settings. Pinion/motor? Headspeed. I have 2 motors scorpion and xera both the 4530LEs. I run 24 on xera and 23 on scorpion. HS is 2125 & 2250. Mine throttle out is usually 75-100% and I haven't had any problems. Set rpm gov gain at 27 and all is working perfectly. Hate to see that.

I don't think that has been established at this point. If the Pyro's windings are damaged, or shorted that could have been the root cause of the ESC going up. Hopefully we will hear more from Bobby as he sorts this out.

We theorize that the (excellent) Pyro fan sucked the flames right up through it before it stopped spinning.

But, to be perfectly fair to everyone involved, the Pyro could have failed first and taken out the CC... I guess there's no way to know when everything was a $600+ charred mess after the fact.

I'll have to check all of the settings when I get home. I can tell you what I remember.

Kontronic Pyro 700-52
Governor mode - Set RPM at 1950
Ratio was 9.27 : 1
530 KV
10 Poles
Medium power settings
8 KHz
0° Timing
Current limiting to OFF

I'm going to be pretty quiet about it all until I hear from Kontronic and Castle. I don't want to point fingers until I know where to point them. As Chris said, it looks like the motor's fan just sucked the flames and heat right into it. Very concentrated in the Goblin's canopy.

The first two flights went fine, just tweaking the AR7200BX. Only put 3100mah back in the packs after a 7 minute flight. Obviously very conservative flying and headspeed. 3rd flight was just 30 seconds in when the motor quit in flight.
